Do you always bring packages inside?

I don't know if this has been happening around you lately, but it has been happening here and now it's changing my behaviour. Within the last couple months, I know of 2 incidents where a person had a package delivery left at their door, they've brought it into the house, then been arrested for having drugs. The police (FBI, ATF, whatever) wait outside until they bring the package into their house then they knock on the door and arrest everyone. One man even had his dogs shot and killed. He's the mayor of a local city here and claimed to have no clue what was in the package. I can totally agree that I would bring in a package if it was on my doorstep, I probably wouldn't look at who it was addressed to until I got it into the house. My step-son's friend was evicted from his apartment because the same kind of thing happened to his roommate.
Well, last Friday, I had 4 packages on my doorstep. I checked them over before I brought them in and only 3 of them were mine (and I knew exactly what they were so they were ok). The 4th one was addressed to someone else - I think she lived here like 3 people ago - and it was from the Department of Corrections (JAIL!). Well, that one did NOT come into the house. I called UPS to tell them that it was misdelivered, hoping that my husband would not bring it in while I was on the phone if he got home from work. Luckily he was thinking the same thing as me. Well, UPS was done driving for the day so they said they'd send someone out to pick it up Monday, just make sure that I left it out front Monday morning. Well, I left it out all weekend long! There was no way I was bringing that into my house, I had no clue what it was! I did put a plastic trash bag over it so it wouldn't get too wet in the storms Saturday.
Has this been happening around where you are? Do you always bring in the package and then find out who it's addressed to?

This is the first I have heard of this happening. I don't have too many packages delivered but know what I am expecting when I do have them delivered. Rest assured if I do have a package that I'm not expecting I wouldn't be bringing it into my home.

I only know about these incidents, but it's enough to make me think twice before bringing something into my home!

Hi reiny, I don't get too many packages so I know when I'm
expecting something. I did hear the story about the mayor
who brought the package in and was arrested and the dogs
were killed. I know that this has been happening lately and
am still wondering if it isn't a set up by the police since I
do know that it could be a possibilty. I wouldn't take in a
package that wasn't addressed to me anymore. I might consider
taking in something if it was addressed to a neighbor that I
knew really well, but I'd have to think about it. This world
is really messed up that we have to think about everything
we do as simply as taking in packages from UPS left on our
own doorsteps. How sad that it has come to this!

I don't even know that I'd do it for all my neighbors. I might tell them to come get it off my lawn... It is sad that we've come to this, but I don't want to go to jail!

Whenever I receive a package I am expecting. I usually do not receive anything I am not aware of. My husband used to buy stuff from ebay, and he knew when he was expecting something. But yes, you are right, if I did receive a package, i would bring it into the house and then look to see, if is for me or my husband. I do that with the regular as well, take it out of the mailbox, bring it upstairs, and sort it, if it is not for me, i will leave it on the mailbox for the mailman to take away on the next day.

I always bring the regular mail in, but for packages, I check them first. I also pretty much know when I'm going to get a package. The only exception is really these catalogues that my husband gets, but I recognize the sender so I know they're ok.
