I totally agree. But from what I heard about 100,000 people stayed put in the mandatory evacuation areas. Now they have to send in rescuers to get them, if they are still alive. Hopefully they made it, but is it fair that now other people have to risk their lives to come get them?

I think those people simply underestimated the force of this one. They might have ridden out other hurricanes without a problem. But the flooding alone from this one is enormous.

Some people seem to have thought that the dire warnings were just exaggerated. Hey, look at New Orleans. They got all those people out and nothing happened. Evacuating is such a hassle, why go through it! We'll be fine. Well, it's that kind of attitude that brought us the horror pictures of New Orleans and the massive amount of dead people. Just because they didn't get hit hard this time, doesn't mean the next time won't be devastating. But people just seem to think nothing will happen to them. And yes, that attitude is beyond me.

Hey, if it would be me, I would have hightailed it out of there as soon as they knew the storm would come most likely towards my area. Who cares about the expense of living in hotels or having to put up with the cramped conditions of a shelter. I prefer to be alive.
