how painful is saying goodbye?  

goodbyes are really sad. i find it really hard to say goodbye especially to those who are really special to me.

oh, it can be devestating !

i've moved around the country abit.
this was long before the internet.

so many friends that i have lost through moving.
or, lost through their moving.

i have a real problem saying good-bye.

some times, if the person gets teary, that's all it takes
for the waterworks to begin. then i'm a mess. especially
if i'm in a public place, like the airport.

Good Bye is painful, but not as painful as it used to be now with all the ways we can keep in touch with people. The internet is an excellent way to make someone feel as if they are really with us. IM, email, chats, webcams. It's not the same as human touch but it's better than just a letter or a phone call.

If I know I will see the person again at some point in the near enough future, then good bye isn't awful for me. If when I will see them again is uncertain, then it's very hard.

I usually don't hard to say good bye to everyone. Because I sure that someday I can return back to see them. Although I can see them directly, I still can connect with them, by communication via phone or internet.

I'm in a long distance relationship with someone I used to work with, who lives overseas. We've been dating for two years and hopefully only have one more year before we can be together. We get to see each other somewhat often (at least a month in the summers, usually a couple weeks over christmas, and a week over spring break), but every time we see each other it gets harder to say goodbye. This last time (just last week was the hardest yet). We got to spend most of the summer together and even a week before we had to leave each other I was getting teary eyed at random moments. The airport goodbye was the hardest though. I couldn't bring myself to stay and wait until the flight left, I had to say goodbye and leave quickly. It was very sad :(

I prefer not to say goodbye since we never know where life leads us and if our roads may cross again, goodbyes are almost like saying you don't want to see that person again. I prefer leaving it open and leave the rest to fate/destiny/luck or whatever. I Never say good bye. happy mylotting.

It is very painful to say goodbye and I try not to say it...or rather I am unable to day it as I end up sobbing my eyes out. I usually just give a quick hug and try to leave before the tears start rolling. My son is going to emigrate to the USA very soon and even now I can't help but cry at the thoughts of him going and knowing that I won't see him again for a long time.

hi eafernan..its difficult for me to answer this one..because i never had experienced anything like that before..i hope it will never happen in my life..because its really hard when we miss someone..its better not to utter the word goodbye like you..happy myloting

If I'm only going away for a while, then I don't say goodbye, I tell them I will see them on _____________ (whatever day I'll be returning. And even if it's a departure that I'm not sure when I will see them again, I still tell them I'll talk to them soon. I guess to me goodbye sounds so permanent. And goodbyes are hard, no matter the circumstances.
