I am really amazed at the way the cell phone technology has grown. Now-a-days we can do everything with the cellphone. Now with the business series we can do even more. We can Connect to internet, call, email, fax, calender, reminder, alarm, camera, audio, video, TV, .......
Where are we heading? Will cell phones replace the computers one day?

No cellphone will not replace computers just like laptops will not replace desktops. The reason being that cellphones just don't have enough power to do the tasks that laptops do and people need the full size keyboard and mouse interface for speed sure the blackberry has full qwerty keyboard but if ur going to bring a keyboard to connect into the blackberry it is the same size as a laptop so why not a laptop? and yes touch screens are really attractive but it cant beat the old rodent. and even some laptops offer multi touch, touch screen. The last thing is price while smart phones cost around $600 u can get a laptop for around the same price sometimes even cheaper

I would say, yes, I think they will either replace computers or make them less popular. Just look at what the laptop computer has done to the desktop. It used to be that someone might own a laptop and then his desktop system at home. Now more and more people are simply opting to buy laptop and portable systems.
As far as cell phones developing into full-fledged computers, I think we're already headed in that direction. You take a cell phone that can do all the functions of a PC and overcome the problems of a keyboard, mouse and screen and there you have it. Samsung has already developed a phone with a built-in projector. Virtual keyboards already exist.
Imagine a cell that has all of the power of a full-sized computer system that can run a full operating system, project a display on a wall, project a keyboard onto a flat surface. Or, if you like, can connect to an external display, keyboard, and mouse. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

You are right sivanj, cell phone technology has gone a longgg way over the years. However, I do not think and I hope they will never replace computers. I find cell phones, at least most anyway, too little and hard to work with because of their size. Plus, the screen is too darn small too! But, they definitely are making lots of improvements. I have never owned an i-phone... yet... but, I bet they are great! I hope I will one day. :) Definitely cannot afford one now, that is for sure!

Cell phones have already replaced computers in the form of palm tops but the new coming laptops have all the features and they are only lacking in calling. Besides, cell phones are becoming compact day by day, hence, they are performing all the tasks which a computer (desktop or laptop) can do. I guess in the coming ten to fifteen years, cell phones will replace the computers.

Personally I do not think that cell phones will replace computers in the future. While a cell phone is beginning to do quite a majority of things a computer can, I do not think a cell phone could ever have the type of storage a computer can have, nor as many programs on it.

i don't see it happening anytime soon. as mobile phone technology grows, computer technology grows too.. and at a higher rate. maybe the time will come when we can call a gadget a cellphone because it's like a computer at the same time we can;t call the gadget a computer because it functions like a cellphone.

The day is already and many of my bosses started using cellphones as replacementof laptops as they travel much. It started happening for higher end peoples in corporate and i believe in 2 years time it will reach to the next level time..
Most of the people are using black berry and its saving time and less occupying space as it can be kept in pocket itself

Sivanj, Nice discussion. The answer may be yes. But the real question here is Does users will accpet this as the future technology.? If you ask me or Somebody offers me A PC and A Cell with all PC options and Features, I will defenately go for PC. As it will give me more freedom and also it will give me more easy handlig than a small cell. For example, which one you will prefer Playing Games in A Cell or Playing Games in A PC. If you ask me the same question will prefer PC it will give more confort than a small cell. Sivanj, What is your opinion on this.?

Mabe because as you have just said mobile phones today has lots of applications and programs that make it a formidable electronic device that can match the computer,But maybe the on the issue that the mobile might face if it will really match up to a computer is that you cant easily upgrade it hardware not like the computer where you can just plug and play the device or modification you have just added.Hope you liked my response and have a nice day.

I don't think so. The good thing about cellphones is their size. All cellphones fit in our pockets. Computers have a lot of computing power and I don't think it is possible for a cellphone to have the same computing power as a computer. Nokia has the E90 Communicator Phone which is the closest thing they have to computer-like cellphone. It resembles a laptop but does not come close to the power of a laptop.
