Why are some people mean?

I find that some people are mean by nature. They are never happy for anyone else. They have to keep criticising others and are very happy and satisfied if that person lands up in some sort of trouble. They try to create situations for others where they get into trouble. We had one boy in our class who would always be on the look out for someone who has broken some rule and would go and quietly tell the teacher about it. He woudl feel delighted when the teacher would haul up that person.
I wonder why some people are like this? Does it give them sado masochistic pleasure? Do they get a kick out of it?

Maybe those kind of mean people have problems at home. For example their siblings always get them into trouble, and they somehow learnt that getting other people into trouble is a happy thing. I think this is a wrong way of thinking..
There is more joy when somebody says Thank You to you than looking at somebody get into trouble because of you. I would feel very bad actually, if I talked to my friend in class and then she got scolded instead of me. Thank goodness she always accept my apologies..
I don't like this kind of people too, I'm just glad there're none in my class.

maybe he feels inaducate to where if he points out the flaws in every one else people might not notice his.. but people SUCK!! so many mean and hurtful people out there and i just dont understand it!!

I don't believe in nature, because I believe in nurture. No one is naturally wicked and no one is naturally good. They are learned from the society, interpret the social events by themselves and learned the culture of the society. If the parents taught them to be competitive they would be someone who wouldn't be happy with someone happiness unless they are also happy or happier than the other. Sadomasoschist is another different thing I guess LOL

people have different attitude. there are some bad and good people. if you know mean people maybe because they have childhood problem. they might have this psychological problem in life.
