Has Disney given you unrealistic expectations of love?

Hmmm...not really, since I've seen many marriages in real life turning sour. I guess my Mom's stories stick more in my brain. She always tells us stories about other people so that we can learn from these stories and I know that these stories are real, so I tend to listen more to what she's saying.

if there are no real man who is brave, handsome, good singer, good dancer, charming and etc there are no woman who is like sleeping beauty, cinderella and more. it is only a fairy tale. as a mother of four i explain to my children form the start that this is only a fairytale. thats why disney alwasy say that it is a fairy tale. cartoons and movies as well are only there to entertain you... i think you got carried away by this.

Well, I worship Disney films, but I never felt that way. In fact, it was the strong women, if anything, that influenced me. To go after what you want, no matter what anyone says. It doesn't necessarily have to be love, just whatever your goal is.

However, now that you say that, I did meet my true love at 16 after going through a ton of crap with my family.

An old roommate of mine and I talked about this several years ago. We joked that we should be able to sue Disney for misleading the popluation about how life and love is supposed to go. It's frustrating that as a child you grow up watching these movies and thinking that some prince charming is going to come and sweep you off your feet and take you away from whatever terrible things are going on in your life to a nice and wonderful place where you are treated like a queen every day of your life.

I think Disney helped push the ideal that my love life would be perfect to a certain extent, but as you grow older you kind of realize that it's not like that. So I guess that it may help push the idea when you're a kid.

A little, although I've since become a fan of composer Stephen Sondheim's work, in which pretty much every relationship fails for some reason of another. So I think I pretty much even it out. I guess I sometimes think that love will just suddenly pop up, but then it will undoubtly fail...
