His entire platform is predicated on these expensive, elaborate programs that he now admits he can't fulfill. So basically he's saying he's not going to give everyone free health care, free college, and green energy. He's also not going to be able to keep his promises to lower taxes for 95% of the country.

He telling us all now that he can't do what he's promised.

So what's left? He will be pretty much useless now.

http://elections.foxnews....

I say the foreseeable future needs to be about FISCAL CONSERVATISM-- something McCain claims to be and even Obama now says we all need to be.

Did we read the same article? This is what I read.....
On taxes, "Obama made no reference to the rescue plan's impact on his call for tax cuts for most taxpayers and tax increases for wealthier Americans. On Friday, he said a bailout would not bar him from pushing for middle class tax cuts, a central proposal in his campaign."

As for "giving everyone free health care, free college, and green energy" uhhhhh.....Obama never said that. The green energy yes, free healthcare and college no.

"Does that mean I can do everything that I've called for in this campaign right away? Probably not, I think we're going to have to phase it in". Well, duh. But the key words are right away and phase it in.

If you think you're going to talk anyone into voting McCain with articles like this, I don't think it will work. Me personally? With our entire economy on the verge of collapse, I won't be voting for anyone who says they don't know much about the economy. He said himself that he still needs to be educated.

yeah I read the article. I also know what Obama has been promising to do and he won't do ANY of it with a TRILLION DOLLAR DEFICIT.

I can do math, can't you?

He can't do everything he wants to do while cutting taxes. Hell, he won't be able to do ANYTHING he wants to do by cutting taxes. He only promises BIGGER GOVERNMENT.

Bigger government means more money. Case in point: the 700 billion dollar GOVERNMENT BAILOUT.

And those tax hikes on the "rich"? Who do you think business pass on their taxes to? That's right; the consumer and employee; that 95% Obama claims he wants to save.

When Carter raised taxes on the oil companies they cut production but then maybe you don't remember the 70's.

Cutting SPENDING, which is what McCain promises to do, is the ONLY way out of this mess. When your bank account is empty do you run out and spend more money? Because that's what Obama has been planning to do.

I think smart reasoned people not blinded by the hype can see clearly what this article is saying.

Hey, hey!!! Easy tiger! No need to get all riled up!

This is how I look at it, which I consider rather unblinded...
We've spent the past 8 years giving tax cuts to corporations. They even got tax credits to outsource our jobs. What good did it do? Our unemployment is high, prices on just about everything is high.

Thanks but no thanks. I'm ready for "trickle up economics".

Don't take it so personal and get bent out of shape, we don't have to agree.

Well said but I do think that the recent crisis is going to impact on the spending plans of both the candidates. I suspect there is going to be very little money around for the candidate's priorities the way this economy is going. If Obama carries out his promise to reduce taxes on those lower down the income scale, which I agree with, and increases tax on the wealthy to pay for this, that's fine with me (I notice that McCain's income tax plans are the reverse of this, giving the most to the wealthiest and the least to the poorest, even if the table in the Washington post does not present the full picture as it does not take other taxes into account, which I would like to hear more about). But both he and McCain will probably have to ensure that any tax proposals they carry out are fiscally neutral, ie do not make our current budget deficit any worse.

Indeed, I suspect that whoever gets elected will have to make some very painful budgetary decisions, and those decisions are likely to involve spending cuts and tax hikes to try to prevent the budget deficit from ballooning as revenues fall and welfare spending rises (eg unemployment benefits) as the US economy enters recession. But don't expect either candidate to say this prior to polling day, as this will be a guaranteed vote loser with the US electorate.

On top of the bailout, Obama promises a TRILLION DOLLARS IN NEW SPENDING.

Where is this money going to come from?

You REALLY think he will even be able to cut taxes much less provide healthcare?

He is not going to bring any change. In fact, he is part of the problem.

You are aware of Lehman Brothers and Goldman Sachs? If not, you may want to take the time to read up: Hilary and Obama received more money from those firms than ANY OTHER CANDIDATE. In fact, Obama was a lawyer suing banks for not making bad loans to people who couldn't afford to pay them back.

Obama is an empty suit making empty promises.

Wake up.

Hes pretty much usless now.
GOOD.
It looks as if the dumb masses are going to end up electing this socialist.
The fact that he wont be able to give anything else away is good news.
