| | I have never tried any of these methods they sound great. I had a problem with fleas only once and then I discovered frontline plus. I have used it ever since. It keeps the fleas at bay and it is really cheap if you order it online instead from your vet. I may just try the soapy water thing though just to make sure that the frontline is doing its' job. | | | | | | |

| | Your dogs must smell (and maybe behave) like pickles! The best cure for fleas is a 6 monthly injection of something which is called Program in the UK. It works by settling in the dog's body fat (where it does no harm to the dog). Any flea feeding on the dog, however, ingests it and it works like a birth control pill. Baby fleas no longer hatch from the eggs. Since a flea's life is six weeks or so, you will not be troubled with fleas for much longer. If your dogs are 'inside' dogs, I wonder where they got the fleas in the first place. By the way, dog fleas are specific to dogs and though they will bite humans, they don't like the taste of us as much as dogs. I believe that cat fleas are also different, but I'm not sure. Fleas lay their eggs off the dog and any carpet or bedding will be infested with flea eggs. You can steam clean carpet and wash bedding but unless you use Program (or its equivalent in your country), the eggs will return. A course of Program is not cheap but it is SOOOO worth it! | | | | | | |

| | No, Actually the vinegar smell does not last at all. I was looking for a cheaper more natural remedy for fleas. | | | |

| | I wasn't attempting to be uncomplimentary (merely joking) about the vinegar smell. Here is a very good site with sound recommendations for 'natural' remedies. http://www.fleascontrol.c... | | | |

| | My main concern would be the dogs drinking the soapy water and getting sick (diahrea) from it. I give my dogs brewers yeast and garlic supplements and the fleas don't come near my dogs- been flea free for years now, and the supplements give them incredible coats as well. I pay $30 for 4,000 tablets, and my dogs love them (they're chewable) so it works out great. | | | | | | |

| | Garlic is suppose to be deadly for dogs though. Be careful with your dosages. | | | |

| | Thats what i heard so I won't chance giving them garlic. As far as them drinking the water,I don't put it in the room with the dogs.I have them confined to one room. | | | |

| | A Metpet 'staff writer' says that garlic in large doses can cause anemia in dogs. http://www.metpet.com/Ref... I also found this http://www.petsbynature.c... which gives references. (If the link doesn't work, the same article can be found as a web page with the link at the bottom. Unaccountably, the references are missing in the web page version http://www.petsbynature.com/Garlic.htm ). I have to say that I have grave misgivings about the way this article is written. You can't believe everything you see on t'Internet! On the other hand, many individual posters say that they have given garlic to their pets for years without any apparent ill effect. With regard to yeast tablets/extract, I do know that just toast and marmite for breakfast keeps mosquitoes away all day. | | | |

| | Also you might like to try when feeding your DOGS some crushed GARLIC into their food. Feas hate it, and the garlic will be so good for your dogs. It helps to stop fleas, reduces the stink from their farts and helps with their breath, also its good for their digestion. HICCUP/ | | | | | | |

| | There seems to be a debate to the harm that GARLIC may cause. Never feed ONION (soup/stews and the like will most time contain onion) to a dog the same goes for Chocolate. Garlic is no where near as bad as Onion and in small amounts is safe. Like us with SALT (this is made up of two deadly poisons) yet we eat it. It all comes down to Volume that we consume. This is the same with Garlic to a Dog, A great volume would be needed to harm them, but small amounts are safe. To back up what I say here is a site that may help, and for the record I have always fed my Dogs garlic in their food, none have had ill effects from it and are Flea free. http://www.entirelypets.com/toxicfoods.html HICCIP/ | | | |

| | Our Black Lab is 7 years old and this is the first year we had a flea problem. We have bee battling it all summer. I'll try the years/garlic and also the soapy water. At this point, I will try anything. We've done the dips, baths, drops on the neck..none of it has cleared the problem. In a few short days, I start to see them on him again...grrr... Thanks for the tips. I'm off to put a bowl of water out... | | | | | | |

| | Sorry, I didn't mean to insinuate that the soapy water keeps fleas off the dogs. It keeps the house from being over run with them and the humans getting bitten though.A vinegar and water rinse though after the flea bath helps keep them off the dog. | | | |

| | We've never had any problems with fleas since we got our doggie a year ago. A friend recommended that we ask our veterinarian for Advantage flea treatment. We didn't have to, the vet recommended it himself. We apply it to our doggie every month and no fleas! | | | | | | |

| | Those of us who have dogs will know what a pest these fleas are.Once they come its so difficult to get rid of them.Last year we had a tough time.we tried all methods to get rid of them.for the dog we used all the medicines possible, in the house we did so much of pesticide spraying, nothing really worked finally my maid suggested a plant which had to be boiled and sprinkled all over and after that we had no problems.Your tips will surely be very helpful.I read the other responses too it will be useful to many of us out here. | | | | | | |
