notifications !!!!! need help

i have turned on all notifications but today i am not getting many notifications of private message,responses to my discussion.i haven't experienced this thing in the past.is there anybody who is having same problem?? tell me where should i go to check this whether message notification is on or not because i have forgot the place for that.and i am not talking about to turn notification on for new applied friends.
