How can anyone not be bitter?

Some of them are good and alot of them are bad. It has made me a bitter person towards alot of things in life because of it. I tend to just stay away from the things that made me that way.

Don't get me wrong, I have been through what I am sure hell would be. I just don't understand being bitter about it.
Sure, bad things affect us.. just tonight, i cowered and closed my eyes when someone went to give me the remote control.. though I know they wouldnt hurt me for the world. But little things like that aside... I think it is easier to not be bitter, than to be. Certainly easier on one's own spirit.

All one can do is trudge forward and try to improve things as you go along lifes winding road. I try to think about the positive things in life and ways to improve the others as well. Nothing ventured is nothing gained. So I try to persevere and improve my life through learning new things. I love to write and vent my feelings on paper often. Sometimes this helps get a new perspective on a situation thats very troublesome.

Hubby #1 was always at least mildly depressed, but his attitude, when he became ill was not "Why me?" but rather, "Why not me?" he was thankful for anyone who chose to help him, and for the way his company took care of him. I guess gratitude is one way to avoid bitterness. I have heard people say they keep a gratitude journal, and even if it is gratitude for the little bird on the sidewalk, they try to find a set number of things to be grateful for, and write them down daily. You might start with three things daily that you can be grateful for, and see if writing them down helps them increase, or changes your perspective. I hope this is not preachy, friend, but helpful. We used to watch lots of old Shirley Temple movies, and things like that. A favorite was "It's a Wonderful Life" and we also like Pollyanna.

Acknowledge it, but then try to find something to be thankful for. Turn your mind to other who have less or a worse time than you do. Notice the sun when it shines, and the wind when it blows and marvel at the glory of the universe. The bitterness will eventually fade.
