"An apple a day keeps doctor away" is an old saying but it may require more than one apple to do the job. The average apple provides only 8mg of vitamin C, which is not enough. Eating 100g of fresh apple with the skin provided the total antioxidant and anticancer equal to 1500mg of vitamin C. Apple is pleasant tasting and easily digested, doctors recommend it as an early baby food. Apple have been called as nature's toothbrush; while they don't actually cleanse the teeth but they still enhance dental hygiene. Biting and chewing an apple stimulates the gums and it's sweetness prompts an increased flow of salvia, which reduces tooth decay by lowering the levels of bacteria in the mouth.
