Does anyone have any ideas what to do about our sarved stray. He is so thin that he has been on a very rich diet, now he has started to throw up his canned food.
So we are putting him on just dry food and only a little at a time. If anyone has any ideas or experience with this issue please let me know.

Hi Savypat, well for starters I would have him wormed and I would also put on dry food with plenty of water. If that doesn't help a trip to the vets really to check out what is wrong. If he was a stray and has been scavenging a rich food diet has probably been too much too soon and a change in diet can quite often result in diahrea or vomitting. Goodluck. Huggles. Ellie :D

There is a nutritional yeast called Turitella (sp) that I have used on many animals. There was a dog with no immune system that came onto the rescue facility that I volunteered for. It made all the difference. I have also given it to a friend whom had a horse that had been sick and wasn't fattening back up with good results.
I do agree that you should get the cat checked for worms as well as to check for health issues such as feline leukemia. It wouldn't hurt to add some electrolytes to the water, like a little gatorade. But definately get the kitty checked out. Good luck.

We took in kittens one time and they had diarrhea at first. We called the vet and he told us to feed them raw hamburger and rice water (water from boiled rice). I believe it helped after a couple of days. It is also highly likely that your cat has worms. I'm not sure if over the counter wormer is any good, but maybe you could call a vet's office to see. You could explain that it is a stray and that you are not necessarily wanting to bring it in to see him. He may give you advice over the phone to try.

I answered this from my e-mail so I didn't see that you had already had him wormed. It is possible that he needs to only eat small amounts at a time. Many dogs eat only one time a day but our dog will throw up if he does that and we have to feed him smaller amounts 2x a day. Maybe that is your kitty's trouble too.

We are trying small meals often and dry food only at this time. One of the problems is that we have too clear everything with the rescue org. he belongs to. this is the first time we have worked with them. But he was in such bad condition we didn't feel we could do this one alone. Usually we just nuter, worm, shots and feed. by that time we have found a good home and off they go. But now we will have to work with others because of our money situation. We keep 6 of our own but just can't afford to keep any more on the ranch. Thanks for all your help.
