Have you ever owned or had a wild pet in your life? | | Growing up my dad or someone was always rescuing wildlife that had been orphaned or injured. The first wild pet we had was a raccoon, he was orphaned as he got older he got a little rascally so dad finally turned him back to the wilds, next we had a pet magpie for about 5 months until it's wing healed when we let him go back to the woods near our home. My uncle came my mom a descented baby skunk and we had her for two years then one day someone left the door open and she escaped, for about two months we would see her but finally near winter she went to hibernate and we never saw her again. We later had a couple of chipmunks rescued from the cats jaw, plus a flying squirrel. My brothers found a crow with a broken wing it was so shattered he could never fly again and about 3 years later they found another injured crow, someone had shot her with a bb gun she joined our other crow and we had them both for 5 years total Jim Crow for 3 and Barbie for 2. Then something got into their cage and we lost them both one night. After that my brother got an oppossum and he was rather a surly creature not very friendly. He was turned loose after about 3 months. We had a pet snapping turtle for 7 years and my brother turned him loose in Mendicio Lake when we moved to that area for a summer. After that when horse logging my dad and brothers found a little found that something had tried to get, he was all scratched and bitten. His mother had been hit by a log truck a day or two earlier and he was starving. We had 15 milk goats so dad brought the little guy home and we raised him on goat milk. We had him for a year then he met the same fate as his mother. Then my younger brother rescued another baby crow that had fallen from a nest too high for us to put it back. It was interesting and fun having so many different wild pets and learning more about their nature. Robert Frankling Leslie came to do a story about our wild pets and our story was put in a book called "Wild Pets" by Mr. Leslie. Have you ever had a wild pet? Even now though it is not really a pet we have a cow moose that visits us ever spring and summer and hangs around just above our house about 150 feet up the hill. She brings a calf every year too. Share you experince if you ever had a wild pet?

We never did have wild pets, only some blackbirds which fell out of the nests but could not save their lives for more than a day or two. maybe they had internal injuries.
