Which foreign language do you want to study aside from English? email this discussion to a friend?

I remember when I was younger, I used to tell myself that after I master English (which I haven't up til now lol ), I would study French. For the simple reason that I find it sophisticated. But I have given up on that since I don't think I'll ever use it in any practical way.

Now, I am learning Korean language since I had to deal with a lot of Koreans here in my country. So far, I guess, I am doing well. I read and write Korean characters well. Though learning its grammar part seems to be the hardest for me. There aren't many available materials online. And I am still struggling to make perfect Korean sentences.

How about you guys, do you still want to learn other foreign languages?

I've always wanted to learn different languages. I'm slowly learning Korean through the net. I know a few spanish by reading the book I bought with spanish words and translation. I also want to learn Japanese since I'm crazy over their manga or anime. But the language that's on top of my list is French. I've always wanted to learn that language because it's good to hear even if I don't understand.

Happy Posting!

Haha. Same here frozenthrone! I wanted to learn French because it sounded so good to me. I think Korean language is easy to learn especially if you have learned the characters. I'm into manga and anime too, but I think I will never ever learn Japanese language and characters, they seem to complicated to learn. happy

i tried my hand at learning french. this was about 25yrs back. somehow it did not progress much. i did purchase a couple of books, later gave it to another who was interested in it.

its good to learn foreign languages as the world is becoming more integrated and will help us understanding one another. i think now i have lots of time at hand to try and revive my interest in learning languages. may be soon i will chose one.

Well at the moment I am learning two foreign languages, so I am focusing my attention on them until they are perfect, then I can look into more. I have been learning Spanish for almost four years now so it is getting really good, I will continue to study it extensively in college as well. I am also learning Swedish because my boyfriend lives in Sweden so I will be able to use it when I go there, though all swedes speak English really well. I will use both of these languages in December since I will visit my boyfriend in Sweden for a month, and out of that month we will go to Barcelona, Spain, for a few days, so I am very excited to apply these languages to real situations, not just online through text. Happy mylotting and have a great day or night, I wish you the best of luck with learning your languages.

i would study French too.but now,i prepared for toefl and GRE and had no time for French anymore.the reason why i want to study French is that once i had seen movies"before sunset" and "before sunrise".so now,i have to memorize the vocabulary everyday.although it is boring,i love it!

I'm getting up there in years but I'm hoping that this old dog can still learn some new tricks, or languages. LOL

I want to learn Spanish first. With the massive influx of Mexicans and Cubans into the United States, Spanish has become our second official language. I know very little Spanish. I took it for a year in high school, but I had taken 4 years of French and, since they are very similar languages, I got so confused when I tried to learn Spanish!

So, I'm going to give that another shot. I'm working on it now so, hopefully, it won't be long before I can squeak by in communicating with someone who speaks Spanish as their native tongue.

The other language I'd love to learn is German. I have a lot of German blood in me and have friends in Germany and Switzerland. I probably know more German right now than Spanish! I'd just like to be able to learn the basics so that I can read and write it.

I SHOULD learn Chinese. I've been told that it would be wise, since China is a superpower and the Chinese language is already being incorporated into some of our movies and everyday lives. I also ADORE Chinese food and would love to order it in their own tongue. happy

I want to learn Welsh - I was born and bred in Wales, and have have recently moved back to the country. Unfortunatly, when I was growing up welsh was a dying language and natives were not encouraged to speak it. Now, though, there has been a revival in the language, and I feel ashamed that I have not learnt to speak it. I have just bought soem 'learn Welsh CDs' off the net, so I'll be spending every day driving to and from work talking to myself! (no change therre, then!)

English is actually my second language, my first is Arabic.. I've pretty much mastered English though, so now I've started learning Japanese, my most favourite language in the world! It's a lot simpler and easier than you may think!

I'm not sure of what to go with for a fourth, though:\ I'm around 10% done from japanese, and will be around 50% by the end of the year, I suppose.. any suggestions? o.o

for me it has to be spanish.
but first i need to master english, i find a lot of flaws in my writting, and speach. But given a choise, i would opt for spanish, because i would be able to communicate with my clients in their language and also avoid the inconvinance of having a translator do the job.
