| | Brush the dog's teeth. My mom has a special toothbrush that gets the bottom, front, and back of the teeth and with a small dollop of toothpaste (I think there's a canine variety, I don't recall if she uses it anymore) you can brush your dog's teeth. It helps to get your dog in your lap and roll him/her on his/her back to keep him/her from bolting. My mom was a dental assistant so she scales their teeth (uses those hooked tools to clean the tartar) but that's just for health, not for bad breath. | | | | | | |

| | I've heard that dogs will often have bad breath if they are eating a lot of 'human' food - processed, which they don't have to chew much. Giving your dog a lot of bones and fresh raw meat will be better for him. Human food isn't good for a dog's digestion. | | | | | | |

| | Usually bad breath in dogs is because people are feeding them that slosh in tins. Even feeding them hard dried food is not the best for a complete diet. They tell you it's good for the teeth but it's not, because it just turns into wet pap when it's being eaten. I feed mine fresh meat, being raw chicken necks with some good brand dried food, and every week they have one good big raw meaty bone for their teeth. Never any cooked bones. My vet remarked how good their teeth were even though one of them is quite old. Sorry to say if the problem has gone too far, it's a case for the vet dentist. | | | | | | |

| | Based on my personal experience, I guess dogs have bad breaths due to the food that they are eating. Maybe you can try to let you dog have a daily habit of brushing his teeth and cleaning his mouth regularly would eliminate bad breath. :-) | | | | | | |

| | I think you can buy chewy stick type things to help remove the plaque from their teeth to keep them healthy and eliminate bad breath, i also know that a friend of mine used to brush her dog's teeth, i've never had dogs myself though so i don't know if this is the normal thing to do, it worked though!! xxx | | | | | | |

| | Bad breath in dogs is usually related to the plaque that forms on their teeth, related to what they are eating. Some dogs never have bad breath because of their genetics. Most little dogs, because most people feed them soft foods, eventually end up with bad breath. You can brush their teeth once they are used to it. Never use human tooth paste. It will make them sick. Or just use the brush. There is a product that we use that is available at Petsmart that you put in their water. We have 4 little ones, and since we have been using it, it has made a huge difference. Two capfuls or so in about a twenty ounce bowl. They all drink from it. I can't think of the name of it and don't have the ability this moment to get it, but it is at least at Petsmart and probably other pet stores. | | | | | | |

| | I use that stuff from PetSmart too, a friend of mine told me about it. It's called Liquid Oral Care, made by Petkin. It has baking soda in it and you put it in their drinking water everyday. It takes about two weeks until you notice a difference but it really does work! | | | |

| | the causes of that are bad teeth or the food intake. i had dog who is like that and that is the reason i told my husband to return her to veterinarian since it is too expenses to take care animals here in US and i dont like him to be in trouble with it. we tried giving her drops and even brushing her teeth but nothing so i decided to return to her and i am glad the vet accepted her again. | | | | | | |

| | I always have my dogs teeth cleaned by my vet once a month. In between I give him these green bones that look like tooth brushes. My dog is part of my family and I take care of him the same way I take care of my kids. I know its expensive at times but I would never be able to give him away because of it. That would be like giving away one of my kids. | | | |

| | One of things my folks did for their dogs was to get them the big "knuckle bones" (actually the joint sections) from cows. They would get them with a little meat left on them and give them to the dogs. We've had dogs that have lived to 18 years old and their teeth were in excellent condition. Also they never had bad breath. (If only the other end wasn't that awful smelling!!!! LOL) | | | |
