Keep voting for change and that’s all we’ll have in our pockets–change! A little over one year ago: 1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;3) the unemployment rate was 4.5%. 4) the DOW JONES hit a record high–14,000 + 5) American’s were buying new cars, taking cruises, vacations overseas, living large!… But American’s wanted ‘CHANGE’! So, in 2006 they voted in a Democratic Congress and yes–we got ‘CHANGE’ all right. In the PAST YEAR:1) Consumer confidence has plummeted; 2) Gasoline is now over $4 a gallon & climbing! 3) Unemployment is up to 5.5% (a 10% increase) 4) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $12 TRILLION DOLLARS and prices still dropping 5) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure. 6) as I write, THE DOW is probing another low~~ $2.5 TRILLION DOLLARS HAS EVAPORATED FROM THEIR STOCKS, BONDS & MUTUAL FUNDS INVESTMENT PORTFOLIOS! YES, IN 2006 AMERICA VOTED FOR CHANGE…AND WE SURE GOT IT! ….. REMEMBER THE PRESIDENT HAS NO CONTROL OVER ANY OF THESE ISSUES, ONLY CONGRESS. AND WHAT HAS CONGRESS DONE IN THE LAST TWO YEARS, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. NOW THE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT CLAIMS HE IS GOING TO REALLY GIVE US CHANGE ALONG WITH A DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS!!!! JUST HOW MUCH MORE ‘CHANGE’ DO YOU THINK YOU CAN STAND? NOBAMA!!!! I believe this kind of change has happened under a liberal Congress and would continue with a liberal presidency. What do you say?

Blaming the economic crisis on a Congress that only started work on January 2007 is a sign of staggering ignorance and/or baffling levels of wishful thinking. Economists all agree that deregulation is the primary culprit. Which party boasts of its deregulation strategy? Hint: not Democrats (in fact, Republicans commonly attack Democratic attempts at regulation). What do I say? I say you're full of crap, quite frankly. Do you also believe that ice cream prevents the flu, since people get the flu most in the winter, and eat the least ice cream in the winter? Or that pirates prevent global warming because global warming is increasing as the number of pirates in the world are decreasing? We know the cause, and we know who's been pushing to implement the cause. It wasn't the liberal boogeyman.

ClarusVisum, For once we agree on something, partially, incredible! Yes, deregulation DID cause this debaucle but it was at the hands of two DEMOCRATIC presidents that this deregulation happened and the democratically controlled congress from the 2006 time period which the author talks about only exacerbated the problem. Carter and Clinton persuaded congress that everyone deserves to be a homeowner, no matter what their financial condition and then Clinton went even further in mandating "high risk" loans from federally subsidised lenders! this in turn gave us our sub-prime bubble and the rest is history! In fact, once in 2003 President Bush (the dumb*ss you keep portraying as a failed policy)went to congress with the idea of controls for Fannie and Freddiebut congress would hear none of it! Againin 2005, the candidate for president for the republican party (yes, John McCain went to congress and basically said the same thing. the housing lending industry was out of control and of course congress and Barney Franks said Freddie and Frannie were in no such distress and the bill failed. So, who was right and who was wrong? The people who deregulated the housing lending industry were wrong but it sure wasn't the republicans, so who does that leave?

After ALLLLLL the news coverage about deregulaion and preditory lenders along with the rise in oil prices, which by the way were beyond the control of our government, being the cause of this economic crisis, do you really expect anyone with any common sense to buy that? Our economic problems go back to before the Democrats became the majority in Congress.

I think that if Obama gets it, it will make Canada look right wing and that is saying a lot. You always get what you want. Well they did, and guess who they blame for it? Bush. Well those people down there voted in the Democrats, and they should have known that the Democrats were leftists, and they got a left leaning government that just let the price of oil go up and gave people who should not have bought houses, sub-prime loans. It is time that America changes back to conservatism. There is no such thing as a free lunch.

Do not forget that Bush and Cheney told all of us that the war in Iraq would be paid for using the oil that was pumped out of the ground in Iraq. What happened? How come we can't believe anything they told us. There were no WMDs in Iraq, it was all a farce and propaganda just like Hitler and Gobbels used to convince the German people that they should conquer Europe. Maybe that's where Bush and Cheney got the idea. I don't trust any republican to lead this country! Do you think Palin is a conservative read page: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1748935.aspx#1_9776105

I agree completely. I think Obama is an intelligent individual but his policies are going to hurt us more than help. I don't believe that McCain will be able to make everything perfect again but it will certaintly be better than what Obama will do. I think being more Conservative is the only way to fix our current economic crisis

"REMEMBER THE PRESIDENT HAS NO CONTROL OVER ANY OF THESE ISSUES, ONLY CONGRESS." You know, that's true clrumfelt. So let's take into consideration that these problems started years ago when Clinton was in office. Didn't he have a Republican congress? Why yes, I believe he did. Here's an idea! Let's stop with this finger pointing, when both sides are obviously guilty, to what degree is the argument, and start holding our Congress accountable? Both sides.

If Obama is elected the economy will only get worse. It is going to take a long time for americans to gain confidence in investing again. If Obama wins our entire government will be run by the Democrats and there going to spend spend spend and its going to drive our economy even further down. I hope tonight McCain really shows Obama's weaknesses in the debate. I feel that the economy is doing worse because Obama is currently leading in the polls and investers are very uneasy about what could happen if he is elected. The market wouldnt be going up by any means if McCain was in the lead but it would not be going down as far. I just hope that the American people realize that having our entire government controlled by the Dems is going to lead to more problems. Our Government was created the way it was for check and balances and if the Dems take control there will be no checks and balances. Everything the dems want passed will be passed and the republicans will be able to do nothing. Hopefully in the next 20 days the people will realize this and vote for McCain.
