Is Drinking Beer Bad For You If you Have Gout?

I think it is, I have a friend who has gout and the very first thing he was told to give up was all alcohol and it doesn't seem to have been anything else the doctors were concerned about..So I don't think it is a good thing to drink beer...

Studies have shown that alcohol generates 5.11 milligrams of purines in every 100 grams. There it also states that all beers are high in alcohol and purines, which if consumed with other food rich in purines such as seafood and red meat would increase gout attacks. Beer is known to augment the hyperurieamic effect of alcohol itself.

There was a book in Japan by M. Osame, who suffers from gout himself, that professed of "finding a level of alcohol suitable for your body, then you can drink at your own pace." My husband, who suffers from this inherited ailment, has tried this...sure enough as it really had a bad premise to begin with... his personal test fizzled out. So as much as I can help it, I ask that he refrains from taking any beer and also a moderation of red wine. After all, he knows it is bad as he feels the pain and discomfort. He has "ion water" and "apple cider vinegar" as his best natural remedies. An occasional NSAID for severe attacks are done too.

i don't drink beer or any kind of alcohol. i don't think it helps anything just causes alot of problems in alot of ways.

I do not think so you should be able to have on once in while not all
the time...it is good for you.

Welcome to the world of alcohol free life! If you have gout, you have to avoid all types of alcohol since they're high in purine and will generate uric acid. Maybe you can moderate the drinking, but if you can give it up totally, then so much better.
