Okay my discussion on the ways that one hangs their toilet paper brought another odd idea to my head. What do you do when you visit anothers bathroom, be it friend, family, or a public bathroom, and as soon as you eneter, there is an odor that reeks causing you to cringe? Do you continue to go ahead and do you duty? Do you walk out to inform a person about the smelly situation? Do you have a bottle of pefume or aftershave and use a spritz of that to freshen the air? Do you use the nbathroom then mention it? Myself I will continue to use the facility if it is a neccesaity. Otherwise I can and often do wait till I am elsewhere to do my duty. I do know people that actually carry a small free sample sixe of like Lysol or air freshener for this purpose. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

When I have to go, I will look in the drawer or the shelves for the niloder or some lysol or whatever and spray the room, and I will turn on the fan. If I do not have to go, I will wait until the stink is gone and then I will go. I might ask for the Lysol or the air freshener, sort of hinting that it smells up to high heaven without embarrassing them by saying, "your bathroom smells like a pig pen."

Well, that a good question and that depends on how bad I got to go and where I am at. I have over at this one nasty family member's house seen that their bathroom was nasty and pretended to use the bathroom and didn't so I didn't hurt feelings. If I am in a public place I have told them that their bathroom is nasty. Sadly, ever been on a trip and had to pull over to one of those public resting places? The bathrooms there are always nasty and sadly, I had no choice but to use it and plug my nose and their is no one to complain too. If I had perfume I have thrown that up in the air but sadly, that just don't get rid of the smell.

I have used the State Rest Stops along the Interstates here in Minnesota. They are all clean all the times I've used them. There seems to be someone there cleaning all the time as well. I hate porta toilets the most. No way to get rid of those odors. Ewwww! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I'd search for an airspray, or air freshener first because I can't stand bad odours and when you have to sit in there with a previously stinky smell and even worse, someone else's stinky smell you want to mask it ASAP. Trouble is you can't do much with one hand whilst the other hand is holding your nose. So it's a quick in and out straight away. In our bathroom we always have a can of sweet smelling air freshener and you hope that other people do the same.

We keep a good smelling can of Lysol spray in our bathrooms. I have also been to some public restrooms where they have the automatic sprayer and at times you find some that are overwhelming but better than the stink.

I would go out immediatedly, otherwise I would have a stomach upset. I would try to do my buisness elsewhere, even outside in a field if necessary. © ronaldinu 2008

I can not remember the last time I was at a family or friends home and come across that problem but I am sure I just went ahead and used the bathroom. I don't carry anything with me for something like that. When I go to a public restroom and it is bad smelling I will go ahead and use the bathroom as long as the place is clean. Now if the toilets are all stopped up and horrible I am outta there. I will also let the person working at the place about the restroom.

I'll go find a pack of matches and strike a few. For some reason the sulfer in the match will kill the smell almost instantly. Some one told my mother about it and since then it's what we use to kill the strongest smell. Also there's usually a vent to turn on or hopefully the person has a window that you could open to air the place out. Between the three, the smell would be removed pretty quickly. lol Now I know a gal who doesn't like using other bathrooms other than her own but she had a little girl and we all know how kids are, they always seem to need to go all the time and she was so afraid of the germs and didn't know how to protect her from the toilet seat except with lots of toilet paper and usually by the time she got the seat covered, the little one had already peed her pants. lol I told her to carry a small hand sanitizer to use for the toilet seat which would kill all the germs providing she got the whole area and she thought that was a fantastic idea! hmmmm... I had a fantastic idea? LOL Alright!!

Okay, but if the odor is fresh there may be a lot of methane gas built up. Then.... KABOOM!!!! How would you explain destroying their bathroom? Thanks for sharing the little girls wetting story here. Hee hee hee! Good idea as well with little ones in tow. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I still would use the bathroom. However, before I do anything else first, I will sprinkle the place with my alcologne which I carry all the time to disinfect the place and to mask that noxious odor. I would not mention such thing to my host because that would definitely embarrass him/her.

Hi thats a good one Grandpa Bob, I think if I really really needed to go badly I would hold my breath, use the facilitythen 'look for an air spray , and spritz the room. If I knew the people really really wellI would tell them their bath stinks. otherwise I would let it alone. what a situation to find oneself in .

If I know the people REALLY well and am comfortable with any topic around them, I might say, "well, whoever was in there ahead of me sure had a mighty good appetite!" It also depends on just WHAT that stench is - if it's natural (in the assumed way), I would probably deal with it and hope someone else didn't think it was me. If they leave a can of spray out, I might spritz a bit, but sprays aggravate my allergies, so I'm picky about using most of them. If it's just plain disgusting in there, then, I will leave and find a reason to depart early or talk to the host/hostess privately to explain the problem. They probably don't want to be embarrassed by someone else walking in there and would appreciate a heads-up depending on the problem.

I avoid using toilets which are not my own - and can't remember ever going in someone else's home (except my parents' or my daughters' - but they're family so it doesn't count). If I absolutely have to use a public toilet (at Central, for instance, after a long train trip, or at an airport, I perch in the air without making contact with the seat. I always carry wipes in my bag for cleaning down the tops of tables in food courts, etc., but I've never used them on a toilet seat before because I wouldn't sit on one anyway!

Hey grandpa bob! What is this with your bathroom fixation this week? Do you have a problem or too much time to spend in the bathroom? lol Another good question for discussion! Honestly, I don't carry air freshener, but there are times that I wished I did, but then we can get into the fact that I wish I had sanitizer and gloves and boots and a whole entire new bathroom to go into! So, in general the smell is sometimes not the worst thing that one could encounter when entering a public bathroom! I really am thinking about carrying gloves and disinfectant and toilet seat covers! You should be thankful that you aren't a women and don't have to enter those bathrooms! You might not make it out alive Grandpa Bob! Ask your wife!

It depends how desperate i am, if i can't wait then i'll just hold my breath and be as quick as i can, but if i can hang on a bit longer and go somewhere else i will do! It depends who the bathroom belongs to as to whether i would mention it, i wouldn't want to offend anyone, if it was a family member or very close friend i would say so, but if it was someone i didn't know very well then i would stay quiet, i wouldn't want to embarrass them!! xxx

If it is a public restroom I might tell some one if I see an employee, if I can't wait I will squat over the toilet and use it. If it is a friend I will keep it to myself unless it is a close friend (squat). A family member I would inform them that they need to clean their bathroom again squat if I can't wait.

I love the casino restrooms as there is always someone inside working to keep it cleqan and smelling good as well. My wifes work has some of the nastiest smells ever so I always go before I get there. There have been times I walked a block to use a public restroom at another restaraunt. My purse is like a filling cabinet as it is. There's no room for a spritz bottle. I have to carry nitro and other heart related stuff and there's just no way. I would use the bathroom if there was no alternative otherwise I'd rather just go home. I did only once complain about a dirty bathroom and was Tim Hortons for the condition of the bathroom, I won't even tell you what I found but it was disgusting and I asked for the manager and was told the manager was on a long distant call could they help. I asked if the call was from the health inspector and the staff person said she didn't know why. I told her as a woman I am ashamed to think women are that closely related to pigs and I suggest someone clean the bathroom up because if the health inspector walked in here and saw that the place would shut down. They said they's have it cleaned up right away.

OMG--geez what kind of people do you hang out with? I'm happy to relate I've never come across this problem, not even in a public restroom....uh, unless you count the time when I was a little kid, my folks and I were visiting some friends of friends of ours...and believe it or not, they did not have an indoor toilet but an outhouse...Now THERE'S a stink!

Hi Grandpa, Lots of bathroom discussions this week!!LOL Well if I really had to go, and had no other option, I would use the facilities, then let someone know how disgusting the place is. It would not matter whose place it is, if the place is that bad, they should be told. If it is a public place, someone really needs to know about the condition of the facilities. In all honesty, I prefer to take care of my business at home. It is not always possible though. When you are out and about, you may have a need to go, and you are too far from home, so you will need to use the facilities. The choice is yours, take a chance and try to make it home, or hold your breath until you have used the facilities? I would use the facilities, and let someone know about the smell, or the cleanliness of the place. Have a good day Grandpa!!

I'm the type of person who do not like using bathrooms other than my own. I always make going to the bathroom the last thing I do before I leave home to go anywhere. If it was totally necessary that I had to use another facility other than my own, and there was a smell, I would probably not use it, excuse myself early and go home to use my own bathroom. I really try to avoid public restrooms, they are definitely a turn off for me. Whenever my husband and I go to the Nascar races, the bathrooms are constantly being used, and with about thirty stalls in the ladies room and one attendant, they tend to remain smelly and the floor dirty with toilet paper and water on them. Yuck, can't stand it.
