Boiling an empty kettle... ...

Has anyone else done this? I filled my kettle up but did not boil it as I was distracted, a little while later I went back to it and turned it on to boil, I walked away. I heard this awful noise, ran back to see what it was, it was my kettle. Someone had emptied it while I was not looking and had not filled it up so I was boiling it dry! Luckily the kettle still worked. Any other boiling dry stories?

i was attempting to make pasta salad one afternoon.. got distracted and forgot it not once, but twice. once before i hadnt put the past into the pot, so all i had to do was add more water and wait for it to boi.. and then directly after.. got sidetracked and totally forgot i was cooking until the smoke alarm went off. the pasta was fused into the pot and took 3 days to get it off and there was an instance with hard boiled eggs once years ago.. and that took a bit longer than three days to get the stench out of the house

Ha ha I have done that with pasta, but a long time ago, it is vile stuff to get off a pan. Oh yuck, that is one of the many reasons I do not like eggs, the smell!

the eggs actually exploded all over the stove, it took over a week to get the smell gone.. oh it was horrible!

I don't have a kettle to boil water, but do use a saucepan, so often I do fill it up with water, put the flame on and walk away and get busy in front of the computer. What can I say? I get distracted with what I'm doing in front of a computer and FORGET that I'm boiling water....that is until I smell that unmistakable smell that the saucepan is burning...the water had completely boiled and evaporated away.

I have done this before. I have tried to boil water and ended up losing track of what I was doing. the water boiled dry in the kettle but I found it in time.

Hello g-rose. I have not done this yet, but I think that it is a good idea to boil an empty bottle that will be used later on. This way, it will be a bottle free from germs. Good and cool idea, friend.

Why on earth someone would leave the kettle empty is beyond me, best part about it, is that no one admitted to it. So no one did it, must be that ghost again!
