Homemade stuffing or Stovetop?

I am making homemade stuffing for our dinner tonight and was just wondering how many people still make stuffing homemade or do you just use Stovetop or some other brand of stuffing. I like Stovetop but I prefer to make it from scratch. As soon as my bread crumbs finish drying out, I will start getting it ready to go into the oven.Which do you do?

Although I'm a fairly decent cook, I'm not a fan of cooking. I'd rather wash the dishes. So when it comes to making things from scratch, I generally don't. I've never made stuffing on my own from scratch (I'd helped my dad with turkey stuffing a few times over the years, but that's it). If I have stuffing, it tends to be stovetop. I don't go out of my way to buy it, but my mother often brings me various grocery items when she visits every other month, and sometimes a box or two of stove top is part of the package. A few years ago I discovered the butterball frozen stuffed turkeys... and WOW! Talk about hassle free! I get one every year for Christmas now, so that I can spend Christmas morning with the kids, relaxing, and watching them open their gifts, and not have to spend the time on a turkey. Those frozen stuffed ones you just keep frozen and throw them into the oven. They're FANTASTIC!!!

Yes, we do. I will try one of them soon. I might check into that for Thanksgiving as I don't like to have to thaw the turkey out and I usually forget until it is almost too late.

Well, we should have you near by to do all those dishes that pile up as we cook and we hate to wash!! LOL!! I personally don't mind cooking as long as I don't have to clean up the mess that I make. I have never had a frozed stuffed turkey, but I may look for one now that you have told me about it. They sound easy enough!

We sound like a perfect kitchen team! ;) Yes, you really should consider trying one of those stuffed turkeys. The only problem is that you're paying turkey price for the stuffing as well. But for me, it's totally worth it (I have a 15lb turkey in my freezer now, and I paid about $33 cdn for it).

I have never made homemade stuffing, ever. I have always made Stovetop stuffing. I think it tastes really good and it is so very easy to make. I have no idea on even how to make homemade stuffing. When I make Thanksgiving dinner I always make 2 or 3 packages of Stovetop stuffing and it goes along with mashed potatoes and all the other fixings. Only my son and I like the stuffing - my husband hates it. This way it is no fuss and just enough for those of us who like it. Have a nice day and happy myLotting!!!

It seems that the majority of us would prefer to have Stovetop or at least that is the way we prefer to make it. I guess that is just a sign of the times as we are so much busier that it seems that we don't cook much from scratch anymore.

i've never made home-made but my sister has and its good. they make it of course for thanksgiving. mostly because my brother inlaws family is vegan so they make 2 different kinds of stuffing. me, i would just use stove top, but i don't do thanksgiving dinners anyway.

I always make homemade for Thanksgiving. We almost always have a large Thanksgiving dinner and so it is nice to have it then.

I use StoveTop sometimes, but I really prefer homemade stuffing. I have made it with bread that was not staled/dries out before too and it turns out really good that way too. I have a bunch of Sage that I need to use up, so I might make something to serve with some homemade stuffing later this week. A pot pie maybe. I like to top a homemade pot pie with homemade stuffing instead of a pie crust.

The girls and I were just talking about homemade pot pies today. I have never made them as my husband doesn't like them, but I think that I may make them while he is gone this week.

I have never made stuffing from scratch. We always have a couple boxes of ready-to-make stuffing in case the craving kicks in. I'd like to make a homemade one though.

You should try to make a homemade one sometime. I make mine fairly easy and I like it a lot. However, I don't use celery and stuff like that with mine.

We usually do Stovetop except for around the holidays. During Thanksgiving and Christmas we cook homemade stuffing. On the week nights, it just easier to cook Stovetop.

I agree with you there and that is what I would normally do. I just decided to be different for a change.

I usually buy Stovetop, but I might have to go back to homemade stuffing if I can make it without stuffing the bird. I hate having to scrape it out of the turkey or chicken, and I heard that if you keep it in the edges, it is not that good for you. So I will have to find a way to simulate Stovetop just in case the family comes over. But since my daughter-in=law is allergic to celery and parsley, we just roast the bird and just have gravy or butter and maybe some applesauce.

I never stuff the turkey or chicken with it. We always just make the stuffing seperate and eat it. I don't like a lot of celery and stuff in my homemade stuffing. I like it fairly plain with just seasoning- sage and rosemary are my favorites!

My husband prefers the boxed one over homemade ones. I think that I would rather have homemade but time doesn't always allow for that.

I have heard of several people using cornbread but never biscuits. How do you make it like that? I might try it sometime.

u just add cooked biscuits w/your cornbread. then u add broth, onions celery , sage. i also had cream of chicken soup, salt, pepper. to a big skillet of cornbread i would add 5 or 6 biscuits.

I think homemade stuffings are just too time consuming. I'd rather get the boxed mix where you add a few ingredients and it's ready. Mmm I love turkey stuffing! Is that what you're making right now? Yum! I wish we could celebrate thanksgiving too but in my country it's not really part of the culture.

I actually made mine with chicken broth instead of turkey but it is about the same. I guess you could do a Thanksgiving dinner without calling it Thanksgiving. I had about 2 hours time in my stuffing but it sure was good for a change.

I like stovetop because it easy and quick just add water and butter and pop it in the microwave. Hey cooking is cooking, and esp if you have left over chicken or steak or turkey it is that easy and saves the day!

We had our stuffing with ham last night and it was certainly good! The cheesecake that I made for dessert was the topper for the meal!!

Stuffing is the one thing i haven't made from scratch... but I have added sausge, sage, apples, mushrooms and old cornbread/corn muffins to the Stove Top Cornbread stuffing. I also make chicken stovetop with chicken broth and extra herbs instead of plain water.

Those are all great ideas! Was the Stovetop good with the apples? I have never thought about doing that. It does sound yummy though.
