Do you or have you ever cheated at board games or at any games in general? |
Now c'mon! Surely most of us at one time or another have purposely dealt ourselves a particular card in Poker or some other card game to better our chances; or moved an extra space in Monopoly; or cheated when selecting our Scrabble tiles or something like that at least ONCE in our lives!
Is it all just good natured fun or should we be ashamed of ourselves?

5. SViswan (4156) | 1 year ago | NEVER! But I don't think I would be ashamed if I did. I've just never felt like I wanted to cheat and win (though I am competetive). I'd like to re-phrame that...I don't REMEMBER cheating...I might have done it when I was very young...but I'm not sure.

zigzagbuddha (1832) | 1 year ago | Yeah, losing definitely sucks when you have winning as the objective. Having kids almost broke me of that. I could hardly get p!ssed off if my kid was winning instead of me! And they always do now. I almost regret those years that I deliberately let them win!!!
| |
James72 (6948) | 1 year ago | The key word here is "almost" zigzagbuddha! lol.
| |
SaintAnne (1695) | 1 year ago | I haven't done this in Scrabble but I've done this during a Sequence game (a few times). Oops!
I love-hate that Scrabble moment when you're waiting your turn to get a really good score.
| |
SaintAnne (1695) | 1 year ago | I haven't thrown a Scrabble board just yet because I usually win it. But I see the frustration and the tantrums in myself with other games. Especially Mario Kart! I hate hate hate losing to Boyfriend at Mario Kart. When I lose, Boyfriend loses in real life. Lol!
| |
zigzagbuddha (1832) | 1 year ago | Yeah, almost. I still don't mind losing to either of my kids, but other than that I better be winning or others start complaining about my attitude... they do not know how close they bring themselves to my edge when they do that.
I have been playing Scrabble on my computer with 'Professor Maven'. I should actually be playing at the 'expert' level, but I get really annoyed when I have to hear the musical explosion every few minutes as Maven gets yet another 96 points or something from using all his tiles, so I just stick to the 'advanced' level, where I win every game... and if for some reason I'm not - like because I passed 4 turns in a row trying to get an 's' or something so I can use all my tiles but I never get it, I just start a new game. That's my version of anger management I guess, hehehe.
You are so funny SaintAnne!!! I love you lots!
| |
SaintAnne (1695) | 1 year ago | Thank you, ziggy! I feel the love and hope you feel it too!!! I am not familiar with this Professor Maven but I'm a bit more different than you in internet games because I am obsessed with finishing something, even if it means I have to spend the whole day doing it and my fingers are already hurting.
| |
zigzagbuddha (1832) | 1 year ago | Yeah, I used to be like that too, I still am in many ways, but I have discovered the joys of dropping something that is not making me feel good!
| |
clemorswhomp (460) | 1 year ago | Is that why you have not dropped me, I make you feel good. There is nothing like a early morning drop to make one feel good.

SaintAnne (1695) | 1 year ago | Hello James... apparently you haven't enjoyed the O'Jays calling for
"People of the world, join in, start a love train..."
Choo choo!!!
| |
zigzagbuddha (1832) | 1 year ago | OK, so now we've got Clem the morning pooper and James the party pooper, hahahaha!
And thanks a lot Ms Saintly, now I am going to be singing 'Love Train' all friggin' day!!!
PS: Professor Maven is the computer player in a Scrabble game I have installed on my computer.

zigzagbuddha (1832) | 11 months ago | OMG! I can hardly believe I managed to snag a couple more BRs from you! What is so funny about that to me is that I have never got a BR from you for any of my 'waxing poetic' responses... only for the ones with gross 'shock value' hahahahahahaha!
| |

zigzagbuddha (1832) | 11 months ago | Ummmm, James, just because I do not go in for formalities and 'proper etiquette' does not mean that I do not enjoy giving and receiving appreciation.

zigzagbuddha (1832) | 11 months ago | Nah, I haven't been jogging for a couple of weeks, I have just been walking along frozen rivers.
No, we did not burn that couch, it got taken to the dump, but there is another one out there to take it's place.
I don't have a clue what the average daily rainfall is in the Amazon Basin, but guaranteed I would LOVE it! I like a lot of rain... it keeps things nice and green.
Yeah, cold weather is not my idea of heaven on earth but I'm working on it.
| |
zigzagbuddha (1832) | 11 months ago | Hehehe, yep, we grow desks out there too!
Well, the whole river doesn't freeze since it's flowing, just huge sections of it like icebergs, and it's only the surface, you can see the water flowing under the ice.
I do not care for cold weather myself. I do not even take my flannel pjs off in the morning, I just put my clothes on top of them, sometimes 2 layers of clothes on top of them. It is 28 degrees here right now, which, as you probably know, is below freezing. I have 2 layers of clothes on, a neckscarf and a wool cap, plus the heater is running right at my feet. And I am still shivering... I will have to go put another layer on.
| |
zigzagbuddha (1832) | 11 months ago | Well, in my opinion it IS as bad as you are making out! I do not like extreme temperatures... too hot or too cold and I sit around like a big ball of uselessness, unable to do anything but suffer.
There is a guy here in my town that had an accident which damaged the part of his brain that senses cold (maybe hot too, I'm not sure), and I have never seen him in a shirt. 3 feet of snow and ice covering everything and still falling out of the sky besides and he's walking around with no shirt on! It gives me frostbite just to look at him!
| |
James72 (6948) | 11 months ago | That's insane! I wonder if he has ever suffered any bad effects because of this? I have heard examples of people that have no sensitivity to hot and cold before (and pain in general actually) and some of the accidents they have are really bad. Things like placing their hand on a hot plate and not knowing, scalding their skin with boiling water and stuff like that. I am sure it is a pretty rare affliction though. From memory it was something to do with the brain sensors that receive notification of pain or something being blocked?
| |
zigzagbuddha (1832) | 11 months ago | I don't know if he has or not... he always looks pretty healthy. When I first saw him years ago, out there in the ice and snow and sub-zero temperatures with no shirt on, I thought he was insanely macho! It wasn't until recently that I found out it was because of brain damage from his accident. Although he must be some kind of macho or his wife would have him wearing a shirt at least!
I'm pretty macho myself I guess because I sleep with my bedroom window wide open with the icy cold wind whipping in. I am just a fresh air fanatic. Of course I have an electric blanket, and a bunch of quilts piled on top of that that are so heavy I can hardly turn over at night. The other day I woke up and the glass of water sitting on my nightstand had turned to a solid block of ice!
| |
zigzagbuddha (1832) | 11 months ago | Yeah, I expect it does, but I am a little bit of an extremist I guess.
Hey James, when you told me about Tasmania and I was looking at those gardens where the guy had carved fairies and stuff what was the name of that place do you know? My son and I have been up all night looking at property in Tasmania and I wanted to show him those photos. I cannot believe I didn't bookmark that page!
| |
zigzagbuddha (1832) | 11 months ago | Ok, nevermind I finally found it myself! Good thing too, since you friggin ignored me! It is not in Tasmania, it is near Melbourne, Bruno's Art and Sculpture Garden.
| |
zigzagbuddha (1832) | 11 months ago | Tasmania was never really out of the running, I just did not see how it would be possible. Now that I realize anything is possible - that achieving any goal is just a matter of aligning yourself with the objective, then I feel more confident in my ability to allow it to happen.
Hmmm, I wonder how I would find this guy hiccup? Is he on your friend's list?

7. thebohemianheart (2696) | 1 year ago | When we were first married, we hung out with a couple hubby had known in high school. Anytime we played cards or board games, one of the guys would cheat. The other girl and I decided that we were going to beat them at their own game, since they thought we didn't know what they were doing. If we played Monopoly, one of us would slip the other one a couple of extra bucks under the table to buy one of the guys' property or something. If we played cards, we would talk across the table, giving hints as to which cards we had or which ones we were wanting to get rid of. It took three or four games for the guys to catch on. Then it got to be a game of who was going to out do who in cheating. It was all in good fun. None of us ever got mad about it.
The only time we should be ashamed is if we get caught!*LOL
| |
| |
thebohemianheart (2696) | 1 year ago | Ehhh, I never take those kinds of games seriously. Can't have too much fun if you take it seriously. We play a dice game called Wash Out. Every time we play it, there is one person who gets a little pissy after the first round and gets up and leaves the game. If you know you don't want to play, don't sit down at the table, right?
| |
James72 (6948) | 1 year ago | But it's even MORE fun if you manage to make someone pissy Bo! There should be a points system actually for how pissy we manage to get 'em. This could be a game in itself! Hmmmm.
| |
thebohemianheart (2696) | 1 year ago | Hmmmm, only if I am in a wicked mood. Otherwise it spoils the whole game.
| |
James72 (6948) | 1 year ago | I guess though that some of us are just born with competitive streaks and can lose site of the fun aspect from time to time. When it comes down to it, it doesn't really matter at all who wins at something like putt-putt but of course there will always be the sore loser or the headstrong competitor mentality in someone!
| |
thebohemianheart (2696) | 1 year ago | This is true. And, it doesn't matter how many times you change the people playing the game, there is always at least one in the bunch.
| |

thebohemianheart (2696) | 1 year ago | Sure, I am alright................ *wicked chuckle erupts from throat*

| |
thebohemianheart (2696) | 1 year ago | Watches James back out the door. Smiling, knowing he wants to turn and run full steam.

James72 (6948) | 1 year ago | It's not mean if it is not done with bad intentions. There is a big difference between a fun and serious game and if its a game being played for fun then anything goes I reckon! It IS interesting though that you do with friends but not with the family! I think for most people it would probably be with the family mostly because it is such a relaxed environment. Thanks for the response.
