Will you switch off your fridge when you go out? |
|
Sometimes some people tend to switch off their fridge and they go out for shopping and even they go out for something. This is highly amassing and I cannot do this as I kept some important thing inside the fridge and I wonder how some people do this and even they tend to shut down everything .Why these people are doing this and would it not be a problem if anything done to their quality of food.
DO you practice this type of method?

walijo2008 (3711) | 1 year ago | I don't ever turn my fridge off either, I'd be worried that something would ruin in there. I get nervous about it if our electricity goes out for a little bit. I don't know why a person would do that...Have a good day

5. tikei18 (330) | 1 year ago | I don't turn off my refrigerator. The use of the refrigerator is to store things and keep foods cold and fresh. That is why I bought a refrigerator. If I turn off my fridge the ice might melt and the vegetables might not be fresh anymore. I haven't heard of someone who turns off his/her refrigerator whenever they go for shopping. But if I will be gone home for 3days or for a week. That's the only time I will turn off my refrigerator. And I will make sure that there will be no meat or foods that might get spoiled.

6. desiree_apuli (272) | 1 year ago | Nope, I never turn off my fridge when I go out or do something outside whether on a long or short period of time. I value to have a low electric bill. For I know that the fridge should maintain certain degree of coldness and once it attain the coldness inside it the flow of electricity was lessen and once you practice the on and off system it will not only damage your fridge but you will have high electric bill because you cannot maintain certain level of coldness in your fridge.

7. serendib (1016) | 1 year ago | I only remove the plug out of the fridge when I go somewhere for a few days or a few weeks. I empty whatever foodstuff that I have in the fridge and either give it to my neighbor or a friend to use.
The only time I turn off the fridge while at home is when there's thunder and lightning outside. But once it subsides I turn the fridge back on.
But I did have a friend who use to turn off her fridge every night before she went to bed and put it back on the next day. She use to do this to save electricity. I don’t think it’s a good idea because there’s a possibility that water can get stagnated inside and damage the wires inside the fridge.

momiecat (498) | 1 year ago | It is funny that this topic came up. I was thinking about doing this the other day because we have a very old refrigerator and I am afraid of a fire when I am away for any length of time. I don't usually cook at home, so all we have in the frig is stuff life cold drinks, soda, water, etc., my chocolate, which only in hot weather needs to be refrigerated and may be stuff like cheese or fruit. Most of this stuff does not spoil like say meat, sauces, milk, etc. I know we need a new frig but cannot afford it right now. Our house has circuit breakers but I have heard of many "electrical fires" happening and I bet these places had circuit breakers too. I am not sure if they can help after a fire starts. It is kind of wierd to think about but I have pets in the house and I would not want anything to happen to them while no one is at home. I would not turn off the frig just to save money. I think it would cost more money to cool it down again after it had been off for a while.

harsha04 (2715) | 1 year ago | don’t think it’s a good idea because there’s a possibility that water can get stagnated inside and damage the wires inside the fridge-yes you are perfectly correct and i think that hese peol unknowingly do things like we actually meant to do.

8. tlb0822 (926) | 1 year ago | We never turn our fridge off. We would lose our food. Plus the energy it would use to cool it's self down again. People may think that they are saving money but they are really not. I personally wouldn't recommend doing that.

| |

harsha04 (2715) | 1 year ago | yes w e will lose our food and hence we would also like to have certain things with all other issues when your life is started with.

| SonzzyB (72) | 1 year ago | if my parents go shopping while me and my sis go college they still keep the fridge on because its only a few hours it will be on and food won't spoil. however, if we were to go on holiday abroad then the fridge will be turned off because what's the point of having it on if no one is gonna use it?
| |

harsha04 (2715) | 1 year ago | Yes I can do this with all other life problems with other things in our issues like things and it all make us to do something.

10. jesssp (1223) | 1 year ago | I've never heard of this practice before, and it seems a little silly. Plus, I don't think it's very good for your fridge to keep making it power down and then get back up/down to temp. Your frige is usually good for around 6-8 hours without power if you don't open the door and your freezer is usually ok for about 24 hours. So you are OK in case of a power outage or something, but I can't see unplugging it on purpose if there's food in there!
