Can you actually be best friends with your neighbor?

You could be friends. Doesn't mean you will part ways. It depends on the people involved. It is an individual choice. Being friends is a two way street. It could even make life better in the long run. Just depends on the individuals situation.

Yes, before we moved to our home now, our neighbors were mostly students and we were friends but not bestfriends because the students are only temporary but once they graduate and came back they see to it that they visit us. Then before we moved to our second home, I became bestfriends with the neighbors kids and I think the adults were best freinds too because when everyone has problems everyone helps. And even if everybody has own new neighbors now there's always that special bond when neighbors of long time ago meet each other in gatherings and evn on the street.
The neighbors now are not so friendly because we seldom see them except of course the very near one who has a mango tree who gives us mangoes.

I don't think i could be best friends with my neighbor, but I could be neighbors with my best friend. Does that make sense. I am lucky that I don't have neighbors that are nosy to ask me where I go all the time. But I have a best friend that has been there with me through everything, I don't think a neighbor could be the same thing she is.

I once had a neighbor who became my best friend, it was great...and it was annoying. It was like a two-edged sword I guess you can say. She was a great friend and I enjoyed spending time with her. We talked about everything, had coffee together, had dinner together, went out together, met eachother's friends etc, but after a while it started to get too much for me.

Even though I really liked her I also wanted to spend time with my boyfriend, my other friends or on my own. She didn't understand and she constantly wanted my company. If I got back from school or work an hour later than I normally did she sent she lots of text messages asking me: Where are you? What are you doing? When are you coming back? She'd wait for me to come back, and as soon as I had closed the door behind me she was there. I sometimes tried to "sneak" in but she always heard me.

When I was at her place in the evening and wanted to go back home, she literally begged me to stay there and I felt guilty when I left. I didn't know how to handle the situation, I tried to tell her how I felt but she didn't understand. On one hand she was way too much, on the other hand she was a great friend and our friendship meant a lot to me.

We not neighbors anymore but we are still friends and actually our friendship has become much better. We don't argue anymore, we just enjoy spending time together.

My best friend started out as my neighbor. She and her family moved into the apartment above us. My daughter and her daughters became friends and played a lot together. One day she got in a real bind because her husband had to work late and she had to go to work too. I told her I would watch the girls and the rest is history. We saw eac hother every day until she moved away last year when her husband was transferred. As a friend, we did get into each other's "business" I guess, but friends share their lives with each other. We helped each other out whenever we could. She's not here anymore but our friendship has continued. We went to visit them last Christmas and they were here for a few weeks this summer. Not a week goes by that we're not on the phone with each other at least 3 times. And as a closefriend I would have no problem asking her, "Where have you been? I haven't seen you all day!!"
