How About Disposable Sippy Cups?  email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 89/100. janeives43 (979) 4 years ago

This is such a great idea if you have little ones at home, or even if you're likely to have some as visitors...

Recycle those small, individual size yogurt containers!

Wash thoroughly,be sure to keep the lids.
With an exacto knife, make a small X in the center of each lid.
For use, replace the lid, pop in a straw, and you're good to go!

love the idea, I'm into so much stuff about recycling without making unable to recycle in the future (and this fits XD lorl) but I do want to emphasize the washing with warm/hot soapy water, its not just washing out yogurt, but those containers are usually not made to be reused, and are made of types of plastics that can leak plastic chemicals into the water/juice, this can be avoided by washing thoroughly with hot soapy water between each use :P sorry...just wanted to emphasize that XD lol

myLot reputation of 89/100. janeives43 (979)  4 years ago

Glad you like the idea. You made a wonderful point about washing that plastic thoroughly, between each use. I think many of us would do that, but it's a great reminder for people, like me, who didn't know about plastic chemicals. Thank you!

That's a good idea. We don't buy small yogurts that have lids, though. We buy the big tub for at home, and then my husband takes the Yoplus, that just have foil over them to work. My toddler drinks way more than an individual container holds at each meal, too. ;) He puts away 10 oz or more at every meal and snack, plus 2-3 other times each day. He still eats well, and it's only milk or water (he gets juice 2-3 times each week) so the doctor says he must just be thirsty. ;)

myLot reputation of 89/100. janeives43 (979)  4 years ago

This idea definitely doesn't work for you, then. That little boy of yours is a thirsty one!

What a terrific idea! Why reserve it for little ones? Pop a bunch in the freezer (I eat a lot of yogurt), and pack them in a cooler to go with a picnic. Keeps the food cool and you have a cold drink when you're ready for it.

myLot reputation of 89/100. janeives43 (979)  4 years ago

I like your idea as much as I like my original one! Next time the grandkids go on a picnic with me, I'll pack those frozen yogurt containers.

That is a good idea. Some, rather a lot, of yogurts now only have the foil tops, however this is great for any of those small containers that do still come with lids. Nice thinking.

myLot reputation of 89/100. janeives43 (979)  4 years ago

I've noticed there are lots of yogurts with the foil tops now, myself. Fortunately, I like a brand that still uses the plastic lids. This sure saves on spills around the house.

Hi jane,
So are all these tips you've read along the way or are you naturally the Heloise type of person. The sippy cup is an excellent idea. I used to and still do, save all kinds of things thinking there must be a use for it. But I'm not the kind of person those uses come to. Instead, eventually I just throw it away. I may not answer all your posts, but I certainly will read them.

myLot reputation of 89/100. janeives43 (979)  4 years ago

Hi leenie...No, I'm not a natural Heloise type. The ideas are a combination of things I've read or ideas I've been given by others through the years. I keep a little notebook and file everything that I find helpful inside. Thanks for your nice comments. Looking forward to hearing from you again...

hi janeives yes I think that would be a great idea, and
would save a bit of moneytoo. We all keep straws and most
eat yogurt so we have the makings of a sippy cup
right on hand. Then you are all set for your child or a
vistor's child when they would like a drink of something.

myLot reputation of 89/100. janeives43 (979)  4 years ago

Hi Hatley..This also saves on carpeting and furniture. I love my grandchildren, but they're not exactly the neatest kids in the world.

That's a great idea! I could expand it to larger cups or containers to use at the bedside. I have knocked over a cup or two of water in my time! lol That wouldn't stop it from spilling, but it might give me time to grab it before it went everywhere.

myLot reputation of 89/100. janeives43 (979)  4 years ago

I never thought of that. Why should there be a size limitation on sippy cups? There are lots of big kids out there, too!
