Aromatherapy is going to be included in a course I'm taking and I don't know much about it yet. I don't even know anyone that's used it. Have you and if so has it been effective in helping or curing any health conditions?

I've used aromatherapy like lotion and candles and bath gel. I think they help a lot with the the certain scents that stimulate your brain. For instance, I've used the Sleep aromatherapy and it has worked like a charm. It contains eucalyptus, which smells really good. Good luck with your course and learn as much as you can, because I believe that aromatherapy actually does work.

Thanks Bunnyklv, it sounds amazing! I think that there's no reason why it shouldn't work, after all we're ingesting the herbs through our lungs which should be just as effective as digesting them. Do you ever rub the oils into your skin, especially the ankles and wrist to get an effect?

Hi Aslanlight, I did an aromatherapy course myself and I think that it is fantastic that it is included in the course that your are doing. Lavendar is the most used oil for relaxation but eucalytpus and tea tree are great for all sorts too. I make my own lotios up using a grape seed carrier oil and just a few drops of very good essential oil. There are so many on the market but you do pay for what you get. Have fun with it. I think alternative medicine is definitely the way to go. Some oils you have to avoid if pregnant can't think which ones at the moment as in back of head somewhere but since the birth of my son I have put so much on the back burner. What course are you doing? Huggles. Ellie:D

I've just finished a Herbalism course and I'm waiting for the exam results and hopefully should get my Diploma and be a practising Herbalist. I'm about to do 'Making your own Aromatherapy and Herbal Natural Products' and 'Advanced Herbalism'. I think that's enough to be going on with!

They include soap, shampoo, hair treatments and face masks in the Aromatherapy one and I'm really pleased about it because I'm allergic to chemicals so can't use any shop bought products. I use Dr Bronner's liquid soap for everything, including my hair at the moment and it's ok but when I make my own I can choose the right herbs etc.

Is it expensive to buy carrior oils, equipment etc?

Your course sounds fantastic. Sone of it can be expensive from what I remember but with the oils you do only need a couple of drops so very economical over time. I haven't bought anything in the last few years though so realy can't help on pricing these days. Have fun with it. Huggles. Ellie:D

aslan,
I can't say that I know much about aromatherapy but I'd like to. It is suppose to really help you understand what smells change your moods. Different aromas effect how you respond to so many aspects of life. When you take the course, you'll have to share some of your knowledge with us. I wonder if I can take a course in aromatherapy, just to educate myself. It sounds exciting! Have fun.

I'd definitely recommend taking a course. It's better than learning bits here and there off the internet as I did for a while. In the Herbalism course I just finished I learnt about Bach flower remedies and it's fascinating that he used to walk around in the countryside and noticed that when he held certain flowers his moods altered so that's how he came up with his flower remedies.

I haven't used aromatherapy to any extent. The only thing I have used is lavender steeped in my bath water, which I find instantly relaxing. Scent does play a large role in our lives. Burning Nag Champa incense relaxes and soothes me.
