Well , in my country China, You are not suppposed to bargain in the supermaket ,but in some small shops or the market, most people will bargain, for the sellers always charge too high, and if you bargain, you may can slash 50%ofthe price.for me, I'm not good at it.
so you always bargain ??what will you say then?I wonder~~

Here in Canada , bargaining is not a practice when shopping. But, when I travel to Bangkok, in the markets alongside the big roads there are night markets. It is very enjoyable to bargain for a good price. But, one is never sure whether the buyer won or the seller won ! LOL ! But, you do get the satisfaction that you got the price you bargained for !
Have a nice day !

Legally, you can bargain anywhere, including large supermarkets. It is still a contract between you and the seller, and the price-tag is not legally written in stone. Most big stores usually won't yield a discount though.
However, it is definitely worth doing if you are buying something for over $200. You should be able to get at least 5% off if you bargain properly.
Simply say 'What is the best price you can give me for...?'
If their reply is 'It's on the price tag.' Then simply say you are going to shop elsewhere instead if they can't be flexible. Usually they will give in.

I never bargains in the small shops or from the road side shops. I also doesn't bargains in the market where people sell products for living. Most of them that sells in the road side shops are very poor and they get money only for buying foods or just for day to day living. I have seen people coming in big cars who are earning huge amount of money bargains in the road side shops. I do bargains in the big shops or at the shops were the shopkeepers are rich. Most times I ask to give it a price they have profit and most times I am polite. I have seen they give it at discount more often in bigger amounts than the people who bargains at them. I think most shopkeepers like being polite.

Well you can't really bargain at the major supermarkets. However at smaller shops my mom always tries to negotiate the price. At the mall at some of the carts where they sell jewelry my mom tells them that she can find the same item for cheaper. They usually take like $5 off and my mom is satisfied. Im not that good at it. I never really done it.

haha! Well in America( where I live) you really aren't allowed to bargain at like a supermarket or anything, there are places like a flea market( I think thats how it is spelled) which is where you take your stuff and sell( kinda like a multiperson garage sell). there you can bargain. but what you said also reminds me of this one time, a friend of my dad's went into Wal-Mart and took this camera to the cashier, and when she tried to ring it up he stopped her and said, " I dont want the camera, I just want the lens, how much you want for the lends?" of course he never did buy the camera, or the lends. Apparently the lends could not be bought seperate.
