certain vegetables and meats?

Have you tried any products to get rid of it?I use to only wash my cutting board with soap and water. But I had a hard time getting out the stains left on it from cutting certain vegetables and meats.

A friend suggested I use a damp cloth soaked in some salt and wipe the cutting boards after using it since the salt helps to rid the stains left on the cutting board. I tried it and it did work.

How about you? Have you tried any products that has helped to get rid of the old stains left on your cutting board?

I have heard a lot of chefs use salt so that must be good and i do believe vinegar is good to kill bacteria as well, so i think i would stick with the salt seeing as the experts are doing a lot of cooking so they should know...

Salt is quite effective but I haven't tried vinegar. I have heard though that spraying vinegar water helps to kill bacteria as you've mentioned.

I use a bleach solution. I just spray it on and leave it for awhile. It gets rid of the stains without having to scrub it. I prefer the "no effort" method over scrubbing any day! LOL

Chlorox makes this stuff in a spray bottle called Chlorox Clean Up but you can find store brands of the same stuff... exact same ingredients but much, much cheaper! Dollar stores usually carry it, too.

Not only does the bleach solution get rid of stains (works on anything made of plastic) but it kills germs, too! I use it all over the kitchen and bathroom. I spray it in my toilet bowl... few minutes later the bowl is stain-free AND disinfected. I clean counters with it... everything.

I love the stuff!

I've never tried bleach but I remember my mom did. It was quite effective but I'm not sure what brand it was. She use to also use Hydrogen Peroxide.

myLot reputation of 98/100. mentalward (4130)   ranked 244 out of 11,094 in cooking  1 year ago

I've never thought of using hydrogen peroxide to disinfect anything but cuts and scrapes! LOL I use it all the time when I get a cut. It bubbles, making whatever dirt or foreign particles in the cut come out and it disinfects the wound. I love it! It's always worked better for me than even antibiotic ointment like Neosporin!

But, I never thought to use it on anything else. I would work, though, and it's a lot cheaper than most other stuff!

Oops, I mean, IT would work, not I would work. Sorry! LOL

Yes it does, and it's really annoying. My cutting board are in white color when they're first bought, then came this hard stains that no matter how many times I've been trying to wash those stains, they're not go away. So every 2 weeks I will have my 'bleaching solution', the one I use to bleach clothes, to fix them. But I have to be careful to wash it over and over so the bleaching product won't contaminated the food.

myLot reputation of 97/100. serendib (1016)   ranked 106 out of 11,094 in cooking  1 year ago

I agree, it is annoying.

My cutting board is white too but I use a wooden cutting board to slice bread. I only use the white one for cutting/chopping meats and vegetables.

I haven't tried bleach because the salt has so far worked for me. But I will use it the next time. happy

I've used salt and I've made pastes from baking soda.

I had no idea that baking soda can be used. I will try it and see.

I've been having this problem for a long time, most of my plastic containers are stained from curries and I have never been able to get rid off the staine. I've tried soaking them in hot water with detergent but the stains are alsways there.

I will soak them in purex water and see if it works. Purex is readily available here in my country and it's also not expensive. happy

Yes, from time to time. I use either Comet and bleach every now and then to get the stains off.

myLot reputation of 97/100. serendib (1016)   ranked 106 out of 11,094 in cooking  1 year ago

I've never tried Comet or bleach. We do have both products here in my country, but so far the salt has worked for me. But I will try the two products you've mentioned in the future. happy

It usually happens because garlic is quite strong. That's really nice that you help your wife when she's cooking. My husband helps me too whenever I cook when he comes to visit us from the estate. But we usually have our meals from out when he comes. happy
