Firework season is upon us again and my head is starting to pound, I am sure the noise gets louder each year! I wouldn't mind if people would stick to 5th November to let them off but no, they started 31st October and they will go on till the New Year that is what usually happens in our area, there is no respite.

They sound like cannons, I am sure the air attack in World War 1 and 2 wasn't as noisy

I am sorry but I think fireworks should only be available to public displays and NOT individuals, ok you probably disagree with me, but it's not just me, it's the animals I feel for as well, the noises frighten them and I am not surprised, they are loud enough to wake the dead.

But once again it's all about MONEY isn't it. Everything is money, Christmas, fireworks, smoking, alcohol, the government want their pound of flesh and why make rules if it means they get less money to waste?

Do you like fireworks or do you feel that you are listening to world war 3 going on outside?

I love fireworks on November 5th at an organised display. We hhave the same problem here and they do seem to get louder each year. I agree with you and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Sometimes I wonder if I am an alien on this good Earth! Either that or an island on my own would suit me down to the ground!

myLot reputation of 99/100. nannacroc (2376)   ranked 68 out of 35,525 in people  1 year ago

I'm almost sure I'm an alien. You'd be welcome on my island when have one. It will be a Scottish island and only people who I hve invited will live or visit there.

As long as it's PEACEFUL I am definitely up for that! I value peace, quiet, tranquility and the beautiful fresh air that Scotland boasts!

Of course it will be peaceful, I'll even find the volume control on my grandsons. No bass music, no loud fireworks. I can't guarantee the wildlife not making noise though.

Fireworks in November... well now there's a new one for me! I only get to hear them once a year and that's on the 4th of July. American Independence Day... is 05 November yours?

You're right. Animals get scared to hear the noise and I don't like it either, not to mention all the people who don't know what they're doing and end up in the ER every year.

They usually start about a week before the 4th here and I never understood that. And no, I don't really like fireworks. I can see part of the next town's display from my front windows. Sometimes I watch for a while and other times I don't even bother. happy

I think of all the money that goes up in smoke, people must have more money than sense, we are supposed to be slipping into recession and the shops are crying out that sales are plummeting yet when it comes to wasting money on fireworks people soon have money for that! Mind boggles it really does! 5th November is the anniversary of the plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament by Guy Fawkes, so I blame him!

It can be quite nice to look at fireworks. But with too many at the same time,it´s a pain for our ears.In the area where I live, every new year it sounds like a new World War..In my opinion, the fireworks shall only be used in public places. Then the chance is bigger that you have an unhurt body when you go home

myLot reputation of 99/100. wolfie34 (13944)   ranked 16 out of 35,525 in people  1 year ago

It's like money going up in smoke, literally. Yes they do look pretty but one blink and they're gone!

I. have never understand how some people can spend so much money on fireworks.
if i had much money,I should spend them on more useful things.
Perhaps I should invest some of them in the machine you was talking about earlier today!!

myLot reputation of 99/100. wolfie34 (13944)   ranked 16 out of 35,525 in people  1 year ago

With the money people spend on fireworks you could build a whole garage of time machines! We should go into business selling them, I'm sure they'll be a market!

Here comes a greating from a sunny Stockholm.
So please tell me when we shall start to put our wise heads together and start something.
Even if our ideas will not be so great,I think people will buy it.

Hello Wolfie!:)

I'm sorry that you feel like you're being bombarded, my friend.

Once, I moved into a house a week before our Independence Day, and on that day, I felt like I was in an ariel bombardment!! It scared the crap out of me and my poor dogs nearly had heart attacks!

You make a good point about using them being such a waste, but then, I feel much the same way about alcoholic drinks, and lots of junk food. We waste a lot of money on things in this world.

As long as other people aren't being bothered by them, and as long as it's being done safely, I don't mind fireworks. I enjoy shooting them into the lake with my children. But that's out in the country and no one else is around to disturb.

myLot reputation of 99/100. wolfie34 (13944)   ranked 16 out of 35,525 in people  1 year ago

I've got my headphones on to block the noise out! You are a responsible adult my friend, so many fireworks get into the hands of the immature and they let them off with no due concern for others! They are a menace! They are also dangerous as well and can be classed as a weapon, that is why I am surprised that the law doesn't crack down more and stop them being sold to individuals but money talks all the time!

Hi wolfie!
That makes me nostalgic hearing about Guy Fawkes! I think of bonfires with jacket potatoes too - do they still do them too?

We get too many fireworks here in Italy angry Even Halloween was an excuse but New Year is the worst. What I can't understand is when they start letting them off BEFORE dark w00t

It does seem a stupid, senseless waste of money and when I had my cats I feared for them, especially when I was away at work and had toleave them alone.

Worse still here is that we get imported, illegal fireworks every year and they do damage even to the people using them and that is even sadder than the waste of money sad

myLot reputation of 99/100. wolfie34 (13944)   ranked 16 out of 35,525 in people  1 year ago

Hello my friend, that is why fireworks should only be sold to organized displays with permits and not to individuals. I am not a total kiljoy it's just worrying when they get into the wrong hands and when black market ones are being sold it doesn't bare thinking about and it has been known that kids can easily buy them and that is scary!

myLot reputation of 79/100. mysdianait (12392)   ranked 1,242 out of 35,525 in people  1 year ago

I agree that only organised displays should be held and that was all my son saw when he was a child.
We also get kids picking unexploded ones up the day after and you can guess what happens then sad

Actually wolfie, I DO agree with you. When I was a child, individuals could buy fireworks in Australia at one particular time of year. I have great memories of bonfire nights and all the gorgeous fireworks my Dad would let off in our backyard. I also remember how idiots used to put bungers in people's letterboxes and even attach crackers to poor, defenceless animals. Individuals have not been able to buy fireworks here for probably 20 years. There are public fireworks displays at special events, which are only sold to organisations who obtain a licence. Personally, I am happy that individuals can't buy fireworks anymore, especially for the sake of animals. While I do like seeing fireworks displays, they are a terrible waste of money and major source of pollution.

myLot reputation of 99/100. wolfie34 (13944)   ranked 16 out of 35,525 in people  1 year ago

I wish they'd adopt that stance in the UK my dear friend. It has been known for children to be able to buy freely fireworks over the counter!!! Years ago they ran ads on the tv about a child picking up even a sparkler when it had gone out and the terrible burn the child received, awareness is the key! But sometimes it's like bolting the door after the horse has bolted. Money always presides, sadly and the poor government needs all the money it can get it's hands on! Sorry to be so cynical;0)

myLot reputation of 82/100. Piscesmoon (2885)   ranked 2,508 out of 35,525 in people  1 year ago

Don't be sorry, wolfie. Cynical is my middle name. Fireworks in young or stupid hands end in tragedy. Perhaps more parents should supervise their kids instead of giving them a handful of fireworks and a lighter to keep them busy before getting back to the serious business of getting p!ssed in front of the bonfire with their mates. Wishing you a happy Christmas season and you, youngsters and pets a safe and happy New Year. Thank you for the BR.

i am very fortunate that near the area where i live, i can hardly hear fire crackers noise... anyway, people don't play fire crackers that often here which is very good because i also don't really like the noise... it also scares me especially when the noise is getting too loud... we only have fire crackers to celebrate independence day and new years day i think... take care and have a nice day...

Hey there Victor Meldrew!! LOL lol

Just kidding. I totally get what you are saying. We had fireworks in our garden last year but it was only on the 5th of November, not before and certainly not after. I wouldn't do them any other day of the year!! We aren't doing it this year as like you say it is all money and last year someone else bought them, I would have had them otherwise. I would take my boys to a proper firework display but they are so expensive to go to and they then charge the earth for hot dogs and beefburgers. My son told me tonight that he saw lots of fireworks but he hates them, he also doesn't like the noise they make.

Yes, I know where you are coming from.

We celebrated Halloween last night and a lot of people had fireworks going off in their gardens. You need a license here for them, which is around £60 but no one really gets one. They are very noisey and the poor dogs in my area where barking like mad, I am sure they have damaged eardrums today. They are nice to watch at the big displays, but all the small ones we can buy, should be totally banned. Kids are getting hurt to often, and old people must be taking ill. You are certainly right in saying it is like World war three going on with that deafening sound. Ban them all I say. But of course the Goverment would loose out as you say.

myLot reputation of 99/100. wolfie34 (13944)   ranked 16 out of 35,525 in people  1 year ago

My head is still pounding and thankfully they have stopped but it's going to be night after night after night now for the forseeable! That's the only thing about this time of year I hate, that and the dark nights drawing in.

myLot reputation of 87/100. hildas (2128)   ranked 1,476 out of 35,525 in people  1 year ago

The dark nights are depressing. Only another three nights to go. I will send you some ear plugs.

Hi, Wolfie. I do love fireworks. I enjoy listening and watching them. Here in my country, we have a lot of different kinds of firecrackers and fireworks. People here start to make noises as early as December. Everyday you'll hear loud noises from everywhere though it is not on a non stop basis, but you will hear a sound or two each day till the evening. Sometimes just as you said they are loud enough to wake the dead. There are times that i too get annoyed by the loud sounds and noise but it is part of our culture and tradition during these holiday season. So, i just enjoy them, and fireworks are really nice to watch specially the spectacular ones during the New Year.

myLot reputation of 99/100. wolfie34 (13944)   ranked 16 out of 35,525 in people  1 year ago

I am just a grouchy wolf who hates noise, I need peace and quiet. My head is still thumping from the cannon blasts, guess I am highly sensitive to sound.

myLot reputation of 98/100. sweetie1026 (1110)   ranked 941 out of 35,525 in people  1 year ago

Yeah, maybe you are my friend. I am sorry that you have to bear all the loud noise these fireworks bring. I love peace and quiet too, specially when i am tired. I hope that they don't get too loud there so you'll have your peace and quiet.Take care my friend!
