I Don't Understand Why You're Voting For Obama... |
| |
| ...were the words my neighbor told me last night when I told him why I wasn't voting for McCain. What he and many others fail to realise is there are more than two choices. I think the majority of Americans don't know there are many, many other candidates to choose from. Take a look: Presidential candidate/running mate...Party...Campaign site Barack Obama/Joe Biden (campaign) Democratic, South Carolina United Citizens, New York Working Families[78] barackobama.com John McCain/Sarah Palin (campaign) Republican, New York Independence, New York Conservative johnmccain.com Chuck Baldwin/Darrell Castle (campaign) Constitution, Kansas Reform, Virginia Independent Green baldwin2008.com Bob Barr/Wayne Allyn Root (campaign) Libertarian bobbarr2008.com Cynthia McKinney/Rosa Clemente (campaign) Green votetruth08.com Ralph Nader/Matt Gonzalez (campaign) Independent, Independence-Ecology,[79] Peace and Freedom, Michigan Natural Law, Delaware Independent, Oregon Peace, New York Populist[78] votenader.org Gene Amondson/Leroy Pletten Prohibition geneamondson.com Róger Calero/Alyson Kennedy Socialist Workers themilitant.com Charles Jay/Thomas L. | | I get tired of the same sort of assumption, myklj999. When people hear me say that I don't support one of the two major party candidates, they assume I support the other. Thanks for providing this list. | | | | | | |

| | With the promise of change this year, it was the time to vote independent. That would be real change. I can never understand why the media only focuses on the 2 parties. That is just wrong. We do need change, there is no doubt that. The only way to bring real change is to STOP voting for Republicans and Democrats. Pick the best 3rd party candidate. Otherwise we will stuck in the same old crap forever. | | | |

| | Good Morning Mike! I was thinking of going up the street to vote here in our little town, BUT, still I am very confused who I would vote for. I don't like either, you know why I don't like Obama (the baby thing) and McCain, well, don't like him either. I didn't realize the list was so long, maybe I'll eenie, meenie, miney, mo it and just pick one. I still have a few hours to think about it right? | | | | | | |

| | You do still have time. Maybe take a few moments to look up what some of the third party candidates stand for and see if any of them represent your interests. No matter who you vote for, I'll be happy to know you voted! | | | |

| | My sons school did a mock election in his class. The teacher only gave them the choice of Obama or McCain. I talked to her and told her there were other candidates. So she went back and put in "other candidate" as a third choice. But not the names of hte third party candidates. Of course most of the kids picked on the two major candidates. They think it was the only choices they had. It is conditioning the kids to think htey only have two choices when they grow up and are voters. And we wonder why the third parties can not compete. By the way McCain won the class election. | | | | | | |

| | My son's school did the same too. They only had the 2 running partners with there VPs. Son my son came home with just 4 names. OB/JB & JM/SP. My son did know anything about a 3rd party. But if you actually sit down and think 1/2 of the adults don't know to much if any about a 3rd party. | | | |

| | I've made no secret of who I'm voting for, but I think everyone who is able to vote SHOULD and they should vote for the candidate who best represents their interests regardless of party. This includes third party candidates. It infuriates me when I hear comments that voting for a third party candidate is "throwing your vote away" or "wasting your vote" when that is NOT true! The only people who are throwing away their votes or wasting their votes are the people who do not vote at all. If there is a third party candidate you believe in, vote for him or her, it is the best way to show your support. The fact that your candidate may not have a very high chance of winning is irrelevant, you have made your voice heard and the records will show that somebody voted for your candidate. I hope one day we will recognize that there are more than two candidates running for President, everyone should be able to make their voices heard and not feel compelled to vote for "the lesser of two evils" when there ARE other options. I also think the third party candidates should have been included in ALL the debates. Regardless of WHO you voted for or if your candidate wins, if you voted at all, you have NOT wasted your vote. Well done my friend, I don't know who you voted for, but I am happy that you voted. | | | | | | |

| | It'd be nice to see other parties get the attention that the two main parties get so the majority of voters would actually SEE them and KNOw THEM... I just got back from voting and it went nice and smooth...hopefully there will not be ther issues there were in the last election....chads and whatnot, in Florida. I pray that it goes well and we see a fair and honest election. Kash | | | | | | |

| | It is a shame that people in general, aren't aware that there are so many candidates running out there. I'm rather surprised to see such a long list myself. Do you know what the requirements are to run for presidency? I believe here in Canada, in order to run for office (at any level?) you need to have a petition with at least 100 signatures of people claiming that they intend to vote for you. Rumour has it that there will be more people out voting in today's election than ever before. I do hope that's true. The system works best that way. I also heard on the radio that because it's election day, there are tons of freebies out there for people to snag. Crispy Creme, Starbucks, and many others, are offering freebies to voters. I wish we had that sort of thing here in Canada. LOL. I love free!!! | | | | | | |

| | LOL! Well I don't understand why you're voting for Obama either... but then I read the rest of the post. What I don't understand is why all of the other candidates don't get to be in the televised debates and why they don't get equal billing on the ballots. If I recall correctly, they do not. I am registered 'independent' or 'non partisan' and I don't remember seeing more than 2 choices on my ballot in years past. YES, I understand the whole MONEY aspect but then again whenever anybody throws that little nugget in my face, I have to come back with the fact that if it's only about money and whose campaigns get financed enough, then we are in the end only voting among people who have managed to get money from people to run. Sounds like a lousy way to get on the ballot and get media attention. If it's only about who has more money, then anybody on there doesn't deserve anything. | | | | | | |

| | My personal view is this. If a person votes in a national election for any of the candidates that are not of the MAIN CANDIDATES it amounts to NO VOTE. It has no bearing on the person who wins. WHAT GOOD DOES IT DO? | | | | | | |

| | Because sooner or later enough people are going to become disgusted with voting for the idiots in the two main parties and a third party candidate might win. | | | |

| | In a blog on Yuwie yesterday, I told the person I was soooo tempted to vote Libertarian. She just assumed that meant I was going to vote for McCain and replied "me too but a vote for Barr would be a vote for Obama". I just let her think that. :-) | | | | | | |
