Holiday Gifts |

Is anyone making any gifts for the upcoming holidays? I got a 12 x 12 frame for a page I thought I would make for my parents (note, I don't know what yet, but I have the frame). Those 40% sales at Michaels are nice. I also have started making tile coasters by rubber stamping & hand coloring. Those are coming out nice. I also saw a video where the artist converted a baby board book. It was really neat, but I can't think of a theme or little story for the book at the moment. I do have a couple left over books from when my kids were little. (I think they are hiding under a bed somewhere with the dust bunnies.)
I would love ideas where you are using your scrapbooking supplies, because I have so much of it laying around.

1. Lexus656 (391) | 1 year ago | I make photo albums or stuff like that for christmas presents. Normally they are small with four or five pictures in them of my son since my family doesnt get to see him often. I try to make a tin of cookies or something like that to add with it. I also like to make jewelry and one year I made hand thrown pottery. I don't have a ton of money to spend on christmas presents so I am always trying to find new ways to make somehting more meaningful for my family.

SukiSmiles (1564) | 1 year ago | Hi Lexus! Those are great ideas. I used to bake quite a bit, but I haven't in a while. Maybe I should get back in the kitchen. I do beading too, but that is usually only good for the women in my family. I wish I had access to a pottery studio, that would be fun. I haven't done that since college. Thanks for replying!

2. ebsharer (2474) | 1 year ago | I just seen a great idea on a discussion she was talking about making phone books for kids with a picture of a person and their phone number under the picture or next to it. I thought that it was a great idea! You could use scrapbook emblishments for it too! Really make it pretty. I would do it and use a removable lable for the phone number part just in case it ever changed.
Yes 40% off at Michaels is ALWAYS nice!!

ebsharer (2474) | 1 year ago | Do you still have the negivtives? If so you can bring them to Walgreens, CVS, Wal Mart and they will put them on a CD for you. Its a lot easier then scanning each picture!
I think it would work for elderly too!

SukiSmiles (1564) | 1 year ago | I didn't know they could do that! When I was looking (a year ago) for a service like that, I had to mail them out. I'll have to check for timing adn price. I took a lot of photos! My girl friends and I went to New York for a week before the trip and then the Egypt trip was two weeks. Thanks!

|
ebsharer (2474) | 1 year ago | I use Walgreens most of the time and when you get the negitives printed you can add a CD for 2.99 they run specials every 3 to 4 weeks that give you the CD for only 99 cents. I have just got the CD before but I had a coupon so I don't know how much it is, but I'm pretty sure its still only the 2.99!

SusanShayAvon (622) | 11 months ago | jillhill if you do not mind to tell, where did you get paper for the 6x6 album or did you just crop it yourself. I got a set of 12x12, 8x8, and 6x6 scrapbooks at Hobby Lobby and just told Brad last night that I had no clue where to get paper for it. They may sell it at Hobby Lobby I just have never seen it.

|
jillhill (11574) | 11 months ago | You can buy 8x8...but I had to crop the 6x6...actually to make it look nice it was more like 6 1/4...that way the paper didn't slide around....and oh....she loved the gift!!!

4. dragon54u (9383) | 1 year ago | I haven't given much thought to hand made gifts yet. I will make my own cards and I will be making at least two pillows from used dryer sheets but beyond that I'm not sure.
It's so much better to make something, isn't it? How do you convert those little books? If you've already explained it, don't bother because I'll be reading the answer once I post this and can see the rest of the discussion. If not, please explain!

SukiSmiles (1564) | 1 year ago | Hi dragon! I saw this video from Suzi Blu and she takes one of those board books and gessos them all over - cover, back, each page. Then she just paints them, decorates them however she wants. She did a little story about a girl going to a fair. Simple, but very neat. She collaged some and also used some pre-made dimensional stickers as well.
Now, pillows from used dryer sheets? I really need a visual for that one. I've never heard of it before. Alhtough, it would not be staticy and would probably smell good.

dragon54u (9383) | 1 year ago | Thanks for the info! I wouldn't have thought of that, although it's a very good idea!
The pillows are simple, too bad I don't know how to use youtube. Sew the sheets into a little fabric bag, whatever size you want. Then choose material for a washable cover, I used some that had construction vehicles, etc., for one for my great-nephew. The cover will be sewn on three sides and the fourth side will have velcro closures so that you can take it off the pillow and wash it. Because it'll need it, people love these pillows and they get dirty!

5. palonghorn (3740) | 1 year ago | my daughter bought one of those frames, she did a scrapbook layout for her grandparents and framed it. she asked my mom to send her several photos of them through the years to use for this gift. luckily i was there when she got the photos and could tell her in what order (by year) they went in. it turned out realy nice. i am making 6x6 scrapbooks for my parents, sister, and youngest daughter, i started this last year, the theme for these is 'a year in pa.'. since i live 1600 miles away and have not seen them in 2 years it's a fun way to share my year with them. i try to pick special days or events for each month.
*sorry about capitalization, but typing totally one-handed since tues., when doctor put full cast on my left wrist and arm.....discussed in my recent discussion i started. lol

SukiSmiles (1564) | 1 year ago | It's always fun getting paid for doing what you love. I'm such a packrat, I love all my stuff. Once I did put some scrapbooking items on ebay, and recently made a really nice basket for an auction to benefit the American Diabetes Association. It came out really nice. I haven't done any atc's - I haven't really had the need for them. But they do look really cool.

SukiSmiles (1564) | 1 year ago | Hi Suzana - I love the big wooden block and letter idea! I haven't had the urge to try to alter a cigar box yet, but I have seen them and the purses are really cute. I started making hanging plaques with inspirational or cute sayings on them today. I don't know if I'll have time for the photobooks this year - I have photos I want to use that need to be scanned. And then there is the turn around time for the book. But I'm going to check it out just in case. Thanks!

SukiSmiles (1564) | 1 year ago | I can definitely understand that. I just bought Guitar Hero III for my son because it was on sale for $55. It's what he's been asking for a couple months, so I decided to get it now because it probably won't be around later.

9. simplyshawn (440) | 1 year ago | Hey we should be neighbors...I have a family tree 12 x 12 page but no frame to put it in. I guess I'll have to check out Michaels online or I'm going to Hobby Lobby on Dec. 11th I'll see what they have there too.
The tree was already printed on the page and I added all the names and birth dates. I like it and whenever I find a frame I'll give it to my mother-in-law.

SukiSmiles (1564) | 12 months ago | I am sure your mother-in-law will love your gift. I know, I wish that myLot friends and I lived closer together so we could scrapbook together. That would be so much fun!
