ptsd | | I've noticed there hasn't been any recent discussions on PTSD and wanted to see if there are MyLotters out there that maybe still dealing with this disorder.
I'm a...well nothing really. I'm not a wife, not a fiance really, I'm barely hanging on as a friend come to think of it, not after... let's call him George, Not after George returned from Iraq.
We were best friends before he left. We had known each other for 6 years, been through a lot together and well after that one last evening he had before he went off to war we became parents to be. Now, a year and a half later, almost exactly, we ARE parents and barely even friends. There's just been constant fighting, arguing, crying, and well literally every bad emotion you can think of and maybe only glimmers of some of the good ones.
But we're still trying and what I guess I'm asking is they're anyone out there who is or has gone through what where going through now? If so, how did you cope with it? How did you support somone who barely let anyone in not even you? And what's your struggle like?

| | | | | | | | 1. BethsMom24 (817) | 1 year ago | Oh honey, I feel your pain. I have an adopted daughter, Beth who is 15 years old. I got her when she was 13. She was physically, mentally and sexually abused her whole life. She is a very angry person who doesn't want to let anyone in and if someone gets too close she completely shuts them off. That's how it was in the begining. She has just been diagnosed with PTSD. It's the same as what you are going through; just different reason for it. She goes to counseling once a week and she is on seraquil to help with the anger and mood swings. Everyday is an adventure with her as I never know how she is going to be. She's been on the meds for 3 weeks now and she is starting to level out some-Thank God. I would suggest, since he is a vet, that you get him to a therapist. He has to work this out of him or it will just get worse. I will pray for all of you.

kaui_808 (102) | 1 year ago | As a mother and someone who wants to adopt I first wanted to commend you on being an adopting parent. To adopt a teenager and one with challenges no less, is awe inspiring.
Thank you for your response, it's encouraging to know that your not alone out in the world and that someone can relate. I'm sorry to hear of the trouble your daughter has had to endure but I'm sure with a praying mother like you at her side she is doing much better already.
As for us. My bf has been going to counseling since his return and is coping. I glad he real adamant about getting the help that he needs. However, its still just in the coping stage and not the progressing stage, if that makes sense. I guess a big part of our problem is that I need coping with his condition. Having a 6 moth old doesn't make any of this any easier but what's life without challenges right? I'm just hoping that this little vacation I took to visit my mom will help us sort out some internal issues.
Thanx again for your response and your prayer. I will be doing the same for the both of you. Please keep in touch; I'd love to hear how you folks are doing.

BethsMom24 (817) | 1 year ago | Beth is leveling off real well and her behavior has gotten much better than it was a year ago. It is a process and it is a long process. I would suggest you see if there is a support group in your area to help you better cope with helping him and being a mom. I appriecate you saying the nice things you said about my adopting beth. I guess I don't as being so awe inspiring as for me, it was a call from God. Even with the difficult times I have had with her and I am sure there will be more, I could not ever give up on her. God put her here with me and if He wants her some where else it will be up to Him to do it! I just pray every day for guidence in what to do and I have given Beth back to Him along with her behavior. I feel like He is doing His work in Her. Yes, let's please do keep in touch and let me know how you are doing as well.
