Do you know how to increase the chance of your discussion to be read?

I posted a discussion a couple of days ago, but none answered to my question. are all the mylotters here indifferent? is my question too trial? No, i don't think so. instead, i bet that few people have the chance to read my discussion, so my question is: do you know how to increase the possibility of your discussion to be read? P.S. My question is: how would you respond to "thank you" from those who you have done them a favor, "You are welcome" "not at all" 'Don't mention it'or "nothing"? Is there any slight difference between those expressions?

It can be so hit and miss on this site when it comes to posting discussions; but I do believe that there are things we can do to try to increase the number of responses. Firstly it is important to make sure that we place out discussion in the right category as putting it in "General discussions" for example is not optimal. Secondly, and the most important in my opinion; is that we should make an effort to reply to each and every response we get. Not a simple "thank you" or equivalent as this is against the guidelines and does not engage the responder further at all. No matter how short or long the response is that I get, I always reply with something I believe to be worthwhile. I will also try to engage the person further so we can continue chatting within the discussion if possible. The more activity we generate within our discussion, the more exposure it will get because the system will recognize this activity and place the discussion higher in the rankings.

I couldn't agree with you more, James72, but sometimes I don't want to reply to every response, and i only respond to some of the good answers. anyway, thanks for your reply. by the way, can you tell the differences between "you are welcome" and "Don't mention it", and i may be too hard for a non-linguist to answer. lol.

This is so true. Definitely be sure to use the right category. I do try to respond to every response. This is very important.

"You are welcome" is usually a term used after someone has thanked us and is considered to be opne of the more formal ways to do so. "Don't mention it" pretty much means the same thing but is far more colloquial. And before you ask, "colloquial" basically means more conversational or informal.

Hello, well, people chose the discussions where they wanna post, and there are no rules to make a succesful discussion. I posted a discussion that got 2 replies only, and few days later, another user posted a similar discussions, getting at least 18 replies. I guess the bigger problem is that we here aren't too smart. If anyone here could understand that instead to have 2000 friends that you never contact, could be better have 30/40 that follow your discussions, and which whom follow the discussions, we all could have discussions full of replies. But is a lost war, i sow quite none of my "friends" follow my discussions and reply them, also if i followed quite all their ones....

If there was a contest who for the mylot member that started the most discussions with zero responses, I believe I woud win hands down!! So I am the wrong person to ask that question to. For your 2nd question, you're welcome, not a prob, don't sweat it and glad I could assist are common responses I usually give depending on the situation and the person. Cheers, Stan

You should make a lot of friends here. Perhaps that's the best way to increase the exposure of your discussions. And also, you should post it in popular categories such as life. Anyway, it's still up to your discussion if you want to gain a lot of response. You should try your best to make it as interesting as possible. Many great discussions only get a few responses. There is huge amount of discussions in MyLot and on one hand that is a great thing, because it is always easy to find an interesting discussion. On the other hand a lot of discussions don't get the attention that they deserve, they simply disappear in the crowd. I spend a lot of time here in MyLot but no matter how many hours I spend here I never manage to read or respond to all of the discussion that I am interested in. It is just not possible. Have you tried posting your discussions in an interest group with fewer people? Not too small, but not big as Life or similar groups. In Life new discussions appear all the time, but in a smaller group, it is sometimes easier to get seen/read. At least that is my experience.

IF we post in a super-large group like music, movies or life, our posts may appear and disappear in flash. post in a smaller group is a good suggestion. thanks

I am still not clear how to increase the visibility. i think if the discussion become active with responses and comments, then it will be having higher visibility. But I get small responses. so its not very much .plus i believe thee are some who are extrra popular here to get much response

I prefer to answer to the discussions posted by others, rather than posting a discussions by myself. This way, I get much more variety of topics, instead of concentrating one or two topics of my own. However, if I start my own discussion, I select the interest as per the topic and try to answer each and every response received, that too, with detailed answers. But I don't know exactly what should be done to increase response rate to the discussions put up be me.

The title of ths discussion itself must be very attracting and interesting which can generate curiosity:D And whenever someone reply to a discussion, we must reply him/her by saying thanks. These are good manners

I think you can try adding more friends and then getting in touch with them so that when they see that you have a new discussion, they'll answer it too. But don' expect your mylot friends to always stick up for you because they have their own busy schedules as well. So you can give it a try and see how it goes, but I'm not guaranteeing any positive results! Sometimes, it really just depends on the discussion. It seems like this discussion is getting a lot of responses. P.S.I don't see why you have the "how would you respond to thank you" question?!

LOL. you know, i majored in linguistics, i ask that question coz i believe that when we respond to "than you" differently, we must mean something slightlt different. i wanna know why that happens. for example, we use "how are ya" and "nice to meet" within a similar meaning but use them in different situations.

I usually try to comment back on those who have responded to it... in that way... my topic would always appear in the RECENT DISCUSSIOn in which many mylotters would able to see and might respond to as well. I hope it could help you in any possible way it could

I once did so,but as i got busy with my own work, I can't find enough time to answer each post and response, so that advice only suits some people here.

Hello XoyyoX, That is a good question, even if it is another MyLot based question. I have found that choosing good topics is a good place to start, but that it could lead to frustration, as a lot of people at MyLot are just trying to earn as much money as possible and contribute to meaningless topics. I think the best way to get attention to your topics would be to build up a good circle of friends at MyLot, who read and discuss each others' articles. All the best. Umart

hello friend,I think it just depends on 3 ways to increase the chance of our discussions to be read. 1,start the new discussion in the public interest where the interest could attract a lot of people start the discussions. 2,start a fresh and creative topic with discussion title which will attract the other members' eyes a lot. 3,use as many keywords as the tag as you can, thus, it will directs a lot of people to search it. It is just my opinion, i hope it is useful to you. good luck

I prefer your third suggestion, add as many keywords as possible, so that many people can search and find it, and the chance is sure to become good.

well not saying anything to a thank you is rude. so just simply say it was no problum i was glad to do it even if you wernt. make them feel like there really is no thank you nesscesary if you know what i mean

I have no idea. My discussion can not get many attention, the best record for them, is getting 24 posts in it. One of my friends can get 100 posts in one discussion, she told me that the comment of the discussion is very important, if you start a discussion on the topic of daily life, there may be more chance to get many posts.

I have also had this problem. I posted a question a while back about firewall settings, which I really was hoping someone would respond to as it was information that's important to me and am really struggling to get to the bottom of.

I think that the easier a discussion is to answer the more responses you will get. Also I think shorter discussions get more answers than lengthy ones because people don't really want to read a lot unless it is a situational advice type discussion. Also it should be able to be something that most people could answer. For instance if you ask a difficult computer question, chances are you will not get a lot of responses because most people do not know the answer to that. Sometimes it is just the time of day that discussions get started as well. If not a lot of people are on when you ask it then less people will see it. By the time more people come on your question might be buried beneath others that came on after it. Also having a lot of friends helps as well, because when your friends go their home page all of their friend's activities for the day are there. So the more friends you have the more people who will see your stuff on their home page. Hope this helps, best of luck to you.

I really am thankful about this discussion of your because I learned a lot for the others' responses. Sometimes I don't give comment to responses and now I know, it's better to do it to increase your responses. I am al.so wondering the same thing for I have been a witness to discussions earning at least 100+ posts...

Considering the fact that this discussion was inside of the mylot daily digest. I don't think you have any worries about getting responses to your discussions. I still have yet to find out how to get my discussions to qualify for the daily digest that mylot send outs. I have over thought discussions before and it would seem that the most simplest ones get the most responses. Whereas the ones I just thought for sure would receive a great or wonderful response; those are the ones that usually bomb and I hardly can pay people to respond (even if that were allowed I wouldn't do it. ~ just a figure of speech). Don't get offended by it, just keep on moving on and continue to qualify for that daily digest, I'm sure that will help out in the earnings department for ya! Happy Mylotting!

I am not sure at all, I think it is just done at random, because when I get my emails, they are very randomly done.
