What can you say about a Baby Carrier? Do you use it? |
| |
| Baby Carrier - Its like an open bag with straps and support for the baby, and can be worn in front or back of your body with the baby inside.. What can you say about a Baby Carrier? Do you use it? And if yes, up to what age did you let your baby use it? I'm using it on my baby boy since he was 5 months old (his back was already strong by then). It was very useful and convenient for me especially when I'm all alone and I have to bring him. For quick trips to malls or to stores or to the office. Now that he's 11 months old, he won't fit on the carrier anymore! The package says it can still hold the baby up to 1 and 1/2 old but I guess, my baby has to graduate earlier! The carrier won't fit on the Chest part! Besides, he's already very active, he can't stay put when I put him in the carrier. How about you fellow parents out there? Do you use it? What was your experience? | | Carrier | | | | |

| | We haven't bought a carrier for our baby and I think we won't be buying one. I have seen people use baby carriers and I don't feel comfortable about it because it is like you are just taking a bag with you. I think our babies should be taken care with a lot of effort not just for convenience or something like that. I am not against people who use carriers but I think it would be safer for me to just carried my baby as is. | | | | | | |

| | Slinging and baby wearing is FAR from convenience parenting. It's part of the natural family living philosophies that tending to every need a baby has immediately. That means keeping baby close at all times. Carriers are a tool to do that with. It's about closeness and the bonds of the relationship between parent and child. It's based on Kanga care research that shows this type of closeness and constant touch helps a baby grow, be emotionally satisfied, feel secure and safe. | | | |

| | I totally agree with your statment as valid as it is, there are cultural differences across the world with different views. I have read the studies and child development books in college. I have a degree in psychology and keeping the baby as close as possible is the best for the baby. That is why third world countries have the best mentally healthy children because they do not leave their mothers side until 5 or 6. Personally as a mother I like the cloth carrier, you can use it up until 8 years of age. It has a lot more versatilty and longevity. Good luck to you moms. Keep focus on what is important THE BABY/CHILD.. | | | |

| | I really don't see what's the problem marosequf. In what way is the mother caring less for her child if she uses a carrier. Its just more practical. First of all the baby is safe while she uses her arms for other work while she is out. Secondly, I think the baby is stuck closer to the mother's body and feels more secure. And thirdly, the mother is less tired. So when she gets back home, she can get back to doing the baby's jobs without being tired. So here goes. No offense meant, but just giving you my opinion. | | | |

| | My baby has two carriers... but only used one ones... and that was when it was raining and i had to buy her diapers... there is only the two of us in the apartment... so i have no one to ask to do that errand... and i surely cannot leave her alone in the apartment because she was only like 19 months old during that time... She doesn't really like it... i guess that is because that was the first time... and she is already big to be using a carrier... | | | | | | |

| | hello aseretdd, the baby carrier has been very helpful to me. fortunately, my baby was comfortable with it, and he was just very close to me, at my chest, and with lesser weight. i was worried i might get backache for carrying him always, so the carrier helped me on this. good thing you have that carrier in your house at that time. yes, for emergency cases like that, and you have no one to leave your baby with, there's no option but to bring along the baby. thanks for sharing! i appreciate it! cheers, Mitz | | | |

| | I never used them, I have four kids and I always had a carrier for them when they were babies but I just never felt comfortable in using it. I think I put each of them in one just one time and that was it I would much rather push a pushchair instead. | | | | | | |

| | Nurse discreetly? Even without a "bib" a nursing mother can nurse discreetly. You should be supporting your sister in her nursing relationship not making her feel shame about it unless she requested information about "nursing bibs". | | | |

| | Have you seen their indigomanila site? I hope so you could see how it looks like, the reversible nursing bib. I just find it comfortable both for the moms and their babies. I just put here the description of their product, i know my sis is proud of being her a mom. | | | |

| | I only used a baby carrier for two of my five children. I used a front one for my first baby at the time we lived in a third floor flat and the lift was constantly breaking down. So it got very tiring carrying his pushchair up and down three flights of stairs. I found it much easier to just put him in the baby carrier. I also used one with my daughter but not that often, most of the time, if i was only going a short distance i would carry her. | | | | | | |

| | My oldest son is 4 1/2 years old. I bought a baby carrier for him when he was a baby but i never used it. My youngest child is almost three months old and at first i didnt buy a baby carrier because i didnt think i would use it. But when he was about a month old i went and bought one and it is a life saver. My son usually will not let anyone hold him but me and he wants me to hold him all the time. If it werent for the carrier i would never get anything done. I love it. | | | | | | |

| | I've used both the hotsling and the ergo. I still use the ergo with my 20 month old. I started out using the hotsling as a pouch sling when he was a new born and smaller (he was 8 weeks premature) because it offered more stability and safety for him based on his size and weight. When he grew more and was able to sit in the ergo better without using the infant insert for a side carry I used the frog carry both front and back (legs splayed across like a frog). I went bush camping with both carriers almost two years ago and went hiking (we're talking moderate to heavy trails here) with both the hotsling and ergo strapped on. I have my two youngest slung in their carriers (second youngest at the time was 2 yrs old and 35 to 37 lbs) while hiking up and down hills and climbing. I think carriers can be very useful. They allow you to have your hands free while doing house chores and other tasks all the while being able to tend to your baby when baby needs you and keeping baby close, feeling safe and feeling comforted and secure. It's a proven fact that for preemies kanga care (keeping baby close with skin to skin contact) can help a preemie grow, regulate temperature better, regulate heart rate and breathing better and over all helps them to heal much better than not using kanga care methods. I loved my hotsling (I passed it along to another mother as a gift) and I still love my ergo. It comes in handy! | | | | | | |

| | Yea we had the Baby Bjorn which lets him dangle from the front. It was ok because i could go and get other things done around the house when he wasn't totally wound up. But truthfully i didn't use it near as much as i thought i would. I would have much rather had one of the carriers that you use for hiking or something like that. I've brought him to concerts and other things like that but when he was in the front with the Baby Bjorn it was kind of a pain in the but after a while. | | | | | | |

| | hello mitziverde:-) i am single and doesn't have a baby yet but i have lots of pamangkins (nephews and nieces) that i love to carry around. i like looking at moms with bab carriers, they seem so cute and convenient but if i had a bay, i don't think i will be comfortable with a baby carrier, i will probably be worried that the baby will slip or something hehe. | | | | | | |
