Have you spanked a Panda today? No? Then HERE is where you do it!

WE all have days or moments where we wish to step completely outside of our normal and expected behaviours and let loose once in a while! You know what I mean right? People post discussions on a whole range of serious topics from politics to relationships and current affairs etc; yet you get this sudden urge to just do something silly. Something quirky. Something TOTALLY unexpected so that people will look at what you have just shared and say WTF??? Well this is the interest group in which to do it! Come on people. If you ever wake up one day feeling slightly left of centre or just plain idiotic, then here's the interest section for you! All I ask is that we don't get too quirky to the point of being offensive. Who's with me?

What is the deal with spanking pandas? I ask that in my Seinfeldesque voice. Why pandas? They're cute and cuddly and could crush you. Right? Why not spank a skunk? Here cute panda, have some more bamboo. I am joining this interest group not because I love spanking pandas but because I think a lot of my discussions belong here.

It is purely a metaphor SaintAnne! Or a symbolic textual representation of a place for all the craziness and ridiculous to be shared freely without fear of persecution! lol. Panda's are most certainly aq cute and cuddly animal and arguably totally innappropriate a choice for the name of this section; but therein lies the quirkiness! If you ever want to get something out of your system with a completely bizarre statement or discussion topic then here is where you do it! We are waiting and eager to embrace the power of insanity together as one! Thanks for the response and I am expecting big and crazy things from you!

Oh, yes! This is a classic example of Panda Spanking in action SaintAnne. Non-conformist, going against the norm and not what is expected from you at all. Now THIS is what this new interest group is supposed to be all about! The only thing we should ever expect from each other in here is the unexpected!

Well there James, I’m all for it, only thing is that people around me don’t seem to ‘appreciate’ the elevated status of my mind. Sometimes in office, I just feel like singing and dancing (OK I’m not completely gone up there…) and I take a good look around and if the coast is clear enough, I just go ahead and do it. At home too, I feel like soooooooo childish that even my son gives me the ‘look’, but I just don’t care. I feel so completely and absolutely happy and carefree and for no apparent reason too! I do hope this group of ours does well, I may really get gems of ideas on how to be completely silly BTW…spanking pandas…have you taken insurance against animal right groups (or does it mean something else which I don’t understand?)

I have to say supidta that I like the way you just described this. "elevetae status of my mind" is a great reference indeed! lol. You now don;t have to be concerned with those people around you in the real world because the people in here are waiting with baited breath for the wackiness in all of us to shine through! If it's silly, we wanna hear about it. If you get the inclination to let yourself go once in a while and never have to explain why, then this is where you do it! By the way, there is a bit of under the table money being fed out to the rights groups every week so for now they are quite content. As long as we never spank the Pandas too hard we should be fine. Oh, and the term "Panda Spanking" is purely a metaphor of sorts. If you are doing this then it means you are letting go and doing something silly etc. Thanks for the response.

We should totally contract Katy Perry for a parody on her song "I kissed a girl' and turn it into: I spanked a panda, and liked it! I hope mylot.com don't mind it.. it feels so wrong, it feels so right, do something inane tonight!! So sweet, so soft, so pankable, black fur, white fur, so touchable." Better to add that you hope your boyfriend won't mind it and be sane enough to notice that this is a sane expression of insanity to compromise with the burdon of every day sanity through relieving this feelings in an insane, inane panda spanking way.. *takes a deep breath after this long, long sentence* Hurray for panda's!

Oooooh that WAS a long sentence there at the end indeed! Deep breaths cyberfluf, deep breaths! I'm glad to see that a dedicated panda spanker such as yourself made it all the way back to the first ever panda spanking explanation discussion! 'Tis a defining moment! I'm all for rewriting song lyrics to further the cause. We could also take the KISS song "I, wanna rock n roll all night" and change it to "I, wanna panda spank all night" as well I reckon. Jeez, we could re-do the Top 40 for the last 20 years! Thanks for the comments and yes, hurray for panda's and hurrah for spanking 'em!

What is it about black and white animals that they so often get the rotten end of the stick? Most people seem to hate magpies but they are really beautiful and intelligent birds - pity about the song, though (I understand that Australian magpies have a prettier song than European ones). Then badgers come in for a lot of cursing and fun making. http://www.badgerbadgerbadger.com/ Now we are asked to spank pandas ... such a gentle, cuddly and endangered species that eats, shoots and leaves. I am rather surprised at you, James, for advocating such a hard-hearted sport! For my part, I like to run naked through the park scattering nuts for the squirrels and birds (so far, I have only done that in my thoughts); I like to walk backwards across the road when the green man shows; I like to cheerfully wish people a Happy Easter at Christmas time and present random people with a single daffodil.

Perhaps I need to explain the picture which is apparently of a somewhat inexpertly made patchwork quilt. It is known as a Voronoi Diagram and has invaluable applications in many spheres (albeit that it is a 2D map). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voronoi_diagram I use it to plan my route round the park, where the dots are trees, park attendants, other horrified users and, perhaps, places where there is a significant congregation of squirrels so that it would be dangerous to squat.

Magnificent! I am happy that you provided the link and a brief description wlwings because I thought that it was an aerial picture of a St Patrick's Day Parade! Next time I am in a park I will take a print out of this "map" because I never seem to be able to find any safe havens to squat these days. I don't have a colour printer though so I had better go to the park at night so the black and white map will make sense!

But we LOVE the panda owlwings! And when we spank 'em we do it so, so gently. Australian Magpies certainly have a unique warble that could be called pretty by some, sure; but they also swoop down on you in mating season and can split your skull open! I have had this happen to me a few times now and it sure ain't pretty! I appreciate the badger link I must say! But to be honest, I think the badger pretty much deserves all the teasing he gets. They are funny lookin' buggers really. Now a word of advice if I could please..... When you are running through the park feeding squirrels, for God's sake don't squat down at ANY time to pick up loose kernels because as far as a squirrel is concerned; nuts are nuts! It can be quite an embarrassing situation having to explain to the emergency room staff why you have squirrel toothmarks in the ol' crown jewels yes? (But the daffodil giving may ease things somewhat) Thank you for the response and I wish you a most prosperous Shrove Tuesday.

It's OK Celantih as I am sure that you are not the only one that is a tad confused by all of this! The whole point of this interest category is to give people an outlet to be a bit silly every once in a while. If you want to post a discussion one day that is really odd or quirky, then do it here! If you feel like saying something ridiculous in reply to someone else's comments, then do it here also! The term "Panda Spanking" is not a specific one at all and is just something silly that I made up. If I were to give it a meaning then I would probably say that Panda Spanking means letting yourself go and acting like a fool for fun just because you feel like it sometimes! Life can be very serious is all. Thanks for the response and I hope I have explained it all clearly for you now.

I have to confess I really like the idea, and yes urges to do something silly come to me each day :) I've been sick for the last couple of days so I'm not sure I have much energy to spank a whole panda right now, but I can at least swat one - does that count? And the best part of it, is that we can really label this something like "no real pandas were harmed during this discussion" thus avoiding trouble with the animal activist out there heheheheheh

A confession is always a good thing as it cleanses the soul! It's not good at all to hear that you've been sick arkaf, but I think starting off with swatting is something that might end up making you feel better, so I say go for it! Once you've built up your strength with the swatting and gotten back to full health, you'll be more than ready to spank like a pro! And yes, the "no panda's hurt" disclaimer is generally a good idea to keep the activist wowsers away! lol. Thanks for the response and get well soon!

I was fascinated when I found this topic, panda spanking. It conjures up some fascinating images and even made me smile for the first time in hours. My pain levels and my sleeping have been bad this week and I was struggling to find something to smile at. I spend my life outside of what some people might call expected behaviours as I live my life the way I choose not how society says is the way to go. There are so many places you could go with an image like panda spanking but I might leave them to grandpa_lash.

I am very happy to hear of your fascination and even MORE happy to have this interest category bring a smile to your face sharra! This was the whole point of starting this interest group in the first place and I am really pleased to see there are now 100 people so far that have selected it as an interest. Life is too damn serious and we need to let ourselves go every once in a while. And the last thing we want to have to do is explain everything either! Yes, the images we can conjure up if we take the term panda spanking literally can be quite bizarre! lol. But it is of course metaphorical. One way I described it was if you are standing in a group of 50 people and someone walks past this group and trips over the kerb and stumbles; yet you are the ONLY person that roars with laughter..... Then that's a panda spanking moment right there! Thanks for the response sharra and I hope to see some craziness from your end too once in a while!

I would respond but for some reason after reading this discusion from start to finish I now have the urge to sing christmas carols, protest PETA, spank the panda, and I have to clean the spit tea off my 'puter screen.... again. You would think that I'd have learned not to drink and read at the same time. You folks are just so.... you. Now.... "Dashing through the snow in my rusty Chevrolet. Down the road I go, sliding all the way. I need new piston rings. I need some new snow tires. My car is held together by a piece of chicken wire! Oh, rust and smoke, the heater's broke, the door just blew away. I light a match to see the dash and then I start to pray-ay. The frame is bent, the muffler went, the radio's okay. Oh, what fun it is to drive this rusty Chevrolet!....."
