I'm sorry doesn't mean I'm responsible

I think it depends in what way you use it in a sentence, i am like you I think the word does mean I care and feel for you but I guess you can be sorry for what you do in life...

well one part is right . but why should you fee sorry unnecessarily when you have not contributed for the wrong!!
the sorry is generally felt when out of ignorance you have hurt some one physicaly or mentally and the you feel that i should not have done so!!
or you have spoilt, broken or lost something!! you feel sorry for your act!!
and if somebody has met with ann accident, say and you are feeling sorry . no you are sympathetic and need to help and not merely feel sorry and add salt to his wounds!!

It depends on the words right after "I'm sorry". It can turn out to be an empathy or an apology, and the way that it'll make you feel will depend on the way that it'll be said.

Exactly. sometimes I say I am sorry but it does not mean that I am at fault for something. Sometimes it is just something someone says when they feel bad for another person.

Sorry is a very sorry state to be in! I do not participate in it myself... I prefer to stand behind everything I do, and I encourage others to do the same. On the other hand, if there is something in my behavior that I am sorry for then I prefer to change it from within rather than to wax on with a bunch of sorry words, which in fact only help to keep the thing one is sorry for activated in one's experience!

I agree... to me I'm sorry means I empathize with you, however I do think it can be easily misinterpreted as an admission of guilt. Personally I think its best in a fight if both people say I'm sorry, because they truly should feel sad that the other persons feelings are hurt, no matter who is at fault.

I use sorry in different ways, including when I apologize for having done something wrong or hurtful, because I am sorry for being wrong, and if not I would be without a conscience and arrogant to think it's Ok to do wrong and hurt others.
But I can be sory WITH someone else, like if something bad or sad happens to them.

I only say "Sorry" or "I'm sorry" if I am really at fault and seeking forgiveness. I don't think I use it for something else.
