When I came home from a few months trip to New Zealand and the Pacific Islands I was really poor for a while after all that spending money that I had done. I still wanted to travel so I got myself a cheap flight to Italy and then I bussed it down to Croatia, Montenegro and Slovenia. I stayed in youth hostels and my own tent at camping sites. I traveled on local buses, trains and ferries. I soon got a full time teaching job so the next year I could afford to go to the Seychelles.
The economy is in a bad shape and that is a shame. It will not stop me from traveling however I am shocked when I look at long haul flight prices. The airport tax and fuel surcharge make the airfares really high. I am having a challenging time deciding where to go for my trip in 2009. I think that I can't wait much longer because I am so keen on traveling. I think I will plan a trip for February 2009. Most of all I would like to fly to Cape Town but the airfare is high. I might settle on going to a destination nearer home. Vancouver is another place on my travel wish list so I hope to got there in 2010.

Our family has been going to Florida every February for quite a few years but we didn't make it last year because of my mom and because money was a bit tight. This year, it's not looking too good either. Even if we managed to get good deals on airfar, which I'm not sure if that's likely right now and I haven't really looked yet, everything else is so expensive and with the price of food and other necessities it's hard to put money away for vacation. We might cut back on Christmas spending and try to take a shorter trip but even that's up in the air. It's got to be hurting the tourist areas terribly.
