Continuous Ink Flow  email this discussion to a friend?

Anyone here knows how it works?

Here's the definition:

Continuous Ink Flow Supply System is a new environment-friendly product featuring its mother printer's optimal colors, optimal resolution and definition while dramatically reducing the use cost of inkjet printers.

I have seen shops offering low cost printing using this Continuous Ink Flow System, but I read that the drivers and assembly of the printer need reverse engineering. Can I do it myself, are there tutorials I can find to do this, or do I need to send it to some shops to do that?

It may be low-cost but it's low quality too. The colors are not how they should be compared to the original inks. Not to mention that they're not advisable for those who are not really printing loads and load because they have a tendency to clog your cartrage thus forcing you to buy a new one, which is expensive.

Another reason why it isn't low cost is because you try to print too much and you end up buying more bond papers or paper to use than you need to. It's like you spend x number of pads for a regular ink because you only print if you need it, while you buy 2x of pads because you can print anything you like, thus ending up with more paper.

Plus about the reverse engineering, these shops buy these softwares and such from the providers of those ink. Some piracy somewhere or something. You can buy those but it would be too expensive to just use for your own. So, if you'd like, just go then and make them work for their keep rather than experimenting on your own.

I have seen low quality print by inkjet printers, I guess it has something to do with the ink, and the quality of the machine or printer, or maintenance of it.

I saw quality prints produced by this system, that's why I like to use it. The original inks are very expensive even the refills. They are able to make business out of refilling because it can be acquired in a much lesser price, and sell it near or 3/4 less the price of original.

Continuous Ink Flow involves modifying the printer to connect much larger reservoirs of ink to the heads using flexible tubing.

Since most printers can detect when the normal ink cartridges are running low, and this is done with a combination of software and hardware, fitting a Continuous Ink Flow system means making modifications to both the printer hardware and the driver software so that you don't get false messages to say that the ink is low.

The people who sell such systems usually claim that they have made the necessary modifications and, I believe, will supply the modified drivers for such a system. I think that if you buy from a reputable company, you will find it relatively easy to install.

I would, however, agree with many of laydee's concerns about quality and the effective savings being offset.

hmmm..sounds like they sell it as a system, like you're buying a new printer?

I had another thought in my mind before writing this. I thought I can send them my printer and let them modify it. I have an old Epson Stylus C43SX, for some reasons it has stopped working (the original make), and I thought I can make it work if I can modify it.

And, about the print quality, I do not expect much from inkjet printers. i have seen shops where I was able to print my IDs on photo paper and it prints fine, for very small cost, i also find it perfect for some desktop publishing and printing business for a PC rental shop.

I think that if your printer has stopped working, then these people would not be able to make it work again. There are many reasons why a printer may stop working, most of them mechanical and needing significant replacement parts, which, alone, will cost you more than a new printer. To be honest, inkjet printers are now so cheap that it is not worth trying to repair an old one.

The companies I have seen online do not accept machines 'for modification', anyway, because the modification is very simple and merely involves placing the cartridge heads in the cradle where the normal ink cartridges go. These firms sell equipment and are normally only retailers. They have neither the time nor the facilities to accept customers' machines.

The systems are specific to particular models of printer because the heads simply fit in the cradle. I checked one site with a very comprehensive list of printers and yours was not listed. I suspect that it is too old to do anything with.

Thanks for trying to explain, I understand from you, that it is easy to install if my printer is supported. I can't find mine model on the list either. well, it is old, I bought in 2002 or 2003, but I rarely use, I might had only had a problem with the driver, as this model is dependent on the driver unlike the newer ones, but I did open and try to find out why it doesn't move, and I knacked something.

Now, I need it, for my own use. I just thought I can do something about that old printer of mine rather than collect dust, or if I'm going to send it to junk shop.

I might consider buying a new one as I we are running PC rental shop, but maybe I'd go for refurbished/second hand if I'm going to alter the machine for that system.
