christmas tree themes

oh how lovely, i remember the ornaments my nan had, she had them old glass painted ones with themes on them and red and green tinsel, her tree was a huge white thing that she had from when she was little, so you can imagine how old it looked, she never ever bought a new one, i do have a few things from her tree after she died, so i will be putting some of them on my tree to remember her by, i bet your tree looks lovely when it's all done up...i am getting excited about doing mine, i know were not supposed to do it till 12 days before christmas, but i never stick to that rule, i may start decorating mine tonight if the cats will allow it, they usually bring it down after a few days...LOL....

I've heard of the 12 days before rule, and I think my granny used to stick by it. As a kid you don't think about that, your just anticipating when it will be put up. She doesn't put a tree up anymore. This year, my fiance's mom is going to be doing it after thanksgiving, with our help ofcourse. Last year, I don't remember when it was put up. Glass ornaments are so beautiful, and that's the way my granny's ornaments look, with glitter on them. Some old "Princess House" ornaments as well, atleast I believe that's what they are.

Christmas is such a beautiful time of year. Do you decorate the whole house or just one room? I remember seeing fake candles in the windows of almost every room at granny's.. It was so pretty.

i used to decorate the living room all over but now i just put up a tree, for some reason i cannot get the deckies to stick to the ceiling, lol...them glass ornaments sound really lovely, i can imagine them glistening with the kights on, it sounds really nice...

I've used them every year since she passed away years ago.
She gave me them before she passed telling me she knew I loved them.
My grown kids love them as well.

Hi Gramps.....it's lovely to keep things that are of sentimetal value, especially things like that, i have a few items that my nanna gave me and i will always keep them, things like that are a reminder of the people who were dear to us in our lives and although they are not with us any more, they are in a way where we can look at these things and think about the people we have loved and lost....thankyou bob....

oh i love the traditional look, i think it brings the true christmas mood into the home, i wanted a change this yer, lots of silver beads and lights is all i want to use this time, tinsel seems to overcrowd the tree so i will leave that out, i hope you get to do your tree to the way you like it, it sounds lovely, even the silver and blue decor from last year soundsreally pretty....thankyou...

awww that is sad that you cannot put up the tree this time, i can understand why though, what a shame, i think blinking lights will look beautiful outside, thankyou for your response.....

i love traditional, i always have but this time i want to go silver, mainly because my living room is black and chrome with silver and gray thrown in, i bet your girls loved putting the tree up last year, hopefully this year you can all do it together...

i would love to add a nit of blue in my tree this time, but i have no clue where i can get blue decorations from, i have looked around but cannot find any so silver is ok for my tree, i know someone who had orange last year and it looked fantastic....

did you know that if you cannot get black balls for the tree that you can buy white ones and spray them black or decorate them by painting them, they do look great, my friend did that with hers last year, she has a silver tree and she added black and it looked fantastic....

Ta hun, will probably buy some and get the kids help to decorate them with me, they will enjoy that especially my youngest.

hi scorpio, i think home made stuff is much better than bought stuff at times, at least we know that our hearts have gone into ssomething that we all love each year...meaning christmas, i think your youngest will love doing that....

well you could get a big plant pot, fill it with soil, then stand it up in the pot, lol, lol (woolies) lol....i am going silver this time, i am only doing that coz all my living room is chrome and black and gray so it will go with the room...next year i may decorate it in another colour, pends what colours we have for 2009...

oh i love the optic fibre trees, you don't have to do anything with them just switch them on and there ya go....

LOL that tree isn't mine, i downloaded a pic of a christmas tree for this topic...LOL.., i have just finished sorting out all my deckies and bawbles, so i'll leave the rest to the kids, they love decorating the tree, so maybe tomorrow they will come alone and do it up to the nines, they always do a great job, considering they are lads, they aint bad at decorating the tree....

Someone has commented on the angle wings on it too now. Maybe they are not stupid like me and know it is not your tree. Well it is lovely anyway. You can put up your real Christmas tree photos soon for me to see the real thing then.

LOL yes i noticed that someone else mentioned it, i do have all my deckies sorted out in different boxes but my tree wont go up yet, it's a bit too early, but i feel like putting it up because i am in the festive mood, i say that because i ain't been out christmas shopping yet, that's another thing, once i do start shopping, then that's when the stress kicks in, that in it's self takes the festive mood away, but right now i am getting warm and fuzzy about christmas, last year wasn't so good for me but i will make sure this year it's a proper family christmas...the boys want to put the tree up today but i say no, wait for a bit then do it...

Yes Christmas is stressful. I have told my girls not to buy anything, just too look after themselves as it has been tough for every one. sorry about last year for you also.

I was just thinking to myself last night that 'now I know why people put their decorations up early'. I think they are older people. When I put mine up later on in December it is not worth the effort as christmas passes so quickly like time, as we get older. I might put my tree up soon as I feel this anyway. It does make it drag in for the Children, but for me it is all so quick now. Soon it will be spring (thank goodness though. I hate the cold)I bought a few presents the other day and wrapping paper, so I am getting the excited feeling now. Take care.

oh your tree is very pretty, i love that theme, i am gonna make an attempt to put mine up tonight, my cats are the only problem, when max was a kitten he spent most of his time up there messing with the bawbls, now he has grown out of it, i have another kitten now and she is a little live wire, so i can see her having some fun with the tree, it will be her first christmas this year, so if she is good then i may be able to get the tree up tonight....i do love your tree though, it's lovely...

Thanks for liking my tree. I like yours too, and if you had taken it at night with the lights glowing, it would look even prettier for sure. I like to turn off my living room lights and just leave the Christmas tree lights on. Then I'll turn on some soft music, lie on the couch and enjoy the romantic atmosphere.

lol, i have a confession, the tree in my post is something i downloaded for this topic, i have not got my tree up yet...LOL...sorry, it was the best tree i saw so i thought i'd add it to this topic....tomorrow i will do some more decorating while the kids decorate the tree, i am putting it up early because i'm in the festive mood now....i love them glowing lights in a cozy room by the fire curled up on the couch with a book, it's just a nice feeling..all christmasy and nice...

Thank you, hildas. My maid usually helps me to put it up...she just loves it. I have attached another photo showing her putting on the ornaments. The tree is only standing alone atop a dressed up box. Come mid-December, it will be surrounded with lots of presents. Each year, I have to buy around 20+ presents for my relatives, including their maids as well as mine.

thanks tamara, it is a sweet pic of her isn't it? i am going silver this year it goes with my living room and everything in it, i do have a few very old glass bables of my nans and i have always used them since she died, so i want to add them to the tree and remember her...
