Cleaning my plastic bowl  email this discussion to a friend?

I have this nice big white plastic bowl that I occasionally use to mix cake batter or cookie dough in, but mostly I use it for my popcorn..After I pop the corn, I spray some oil and add salt..I wash it every time, but this last time, I saw what looked like mold spots..I don't know if this is from the oil and not washing it right away, but I did soak it in bleach water hoping to remove the spots..
Other than maybe soaking it longer in bleach water, is there anything else I can do? And what can I do to prevent it from happening again, like washing right away after use..

If you have a dishwasher can put it in there. Other then that I guess washing it right away will do it, or if not right away just dont wait very long, like the next day or something.

No dishwasher, unless you count my daughter..lol And it usually does get washed that evening or at the latest, the next morning..

Lol yeah that was me before my parents got a dishwasher, I was also the remote for the tv before they got one with a remote lol. Hmm thats weird that it would get mold that fast then. Do you live where its really humid?

No, I am in Ohio and even this summer was more mild than usual. I love popcorn and make it often. The last time I made it was about 4 days ago, and then again yesterday. I didn't notice the spots on it yesterday when I went to put the popcorn in. It wasn't until this morning that I noticed it from when my daughter washed it last night..

I have never heard of getting mold this fast either.. very strange indeed!

Maybe trying rinsing the bowl with some vinegar!

Ahh hmmm really weird, I have no clue what could be causing it.

Thanks Louise, though I am not 100% sure it is mold, just that it has little green spots that look like mold and you would think that soaking in bleach water would get rid of it..confused Maybe I will try the vinegar, maybe it will work..

I got the same exact thing in our plastic pitcher we use for Kool-Aid or Crystal Light. No matter how much scrubbing you do, those spots don't come out. Therefore, I just resign it that if I wash it out with anti-bacterial soap, it should be just fine.

I also get that on my kool aid pitchers, but that is what I thought was stained from the color of the koolaid. This bowl in the last few weeks has only held popcorn and I am afraid that somehow the oil has caused mold to grow on it..

Hmmm very strange indeed. My pitchers for kool-aid have done this and I have soaked them in pure bleach and then left them sit overnight with water in them to rinse it extremely well. Wouldn't hurt to try I guess. Good Luck
