21. sacmom (5878) | 1 year ago | I actually drive around in an older vehicle than that loud. LOL My husband's work truck is 17 years old. We bought it a couple of years ago off of our landlord's son (he was the original owner) after he bought a brand new truck as my husband needed a truck for work. He sold it to us for the same price as the dealer trade in. It does have high miles (almost 300,000) but was maintained regularly and just keeps going and going. Hopefully it'll continue to keep on going for some time to come.
All the vehicles that my husband and I have had over the years were always older ones. The newest old one we bought is our current car. We bought it when it was 7 years old. And wouldn't you know, the darn thing needs work (and only about 7 months after we bought it). If I could I would sell it as looking at it just sitting in the driveway makes me depressed. But I'm afraid the only way to get rid of it is to give it away for free and seeing that we paid almost $5000 (US dollars) for it, it would be a big loss. And knowing this depresses me even more.

sacmom (5878) | 1 year ago | I could, but I worry that not all the parts would get sold and then I'd have parts of the car sitting which in a way would be even worse than the whole car sitting. Plus my husband and I plan to get it fixed, we just don't know when.

22. ellie333 (6793) | 1 year ago | Hi Loud, I would personally go for it, you know the history and you hardly ever see a Peugot 106 in the scrappy. My neighbour has an even older one H reg and it goes through the MOT every year and has proven to be very reliable as they use it for quite a few long distance journeys. In fact my own car is on a N reg and was my ex-husbands, he needed space in his garage so I got it for a bargain price myself. Older cars haven't got all this computer chip stuff in them either which does make them easier to work on and cheaper too. Huggles. Ellie:D

23. tlb0822 (926) | 1 year ago | I don't think that there is anything wrong with driving an older car. I think that my car is about twelve years old or more, it's my first car of course, but any way an older couple owned it and didn't drive it much. It didn't cost a fortune, and it hasn't given me a shred of problems(knock on wood..lol). I think that if the car is in good working order, and doesn't seem to have any problems then why not get it. Then you can save up and get a better/newer car in the future if you like. I don't think that there is a difference in an older care and a newer car, besides the look. If it has four wheels and gets me to point a to point b then who cares right? Good luck.

24. overwings (3639) | 1 year ago | My car is about that age. 12 years old and as I have no means to get a fresher one I will have to go on with this one at least for a couple of years more. It is working well but now it is a bit small for me. My previous car was around 10 years old but I was the 7th owner so it was in a much worse condition.

25. dwickham (101) | 1 year ago | My car is 12 years old and it's the most reliable car I've had. It's so economical, I never have to have anything fixed on it. My fiance has a 19 year old car and it runs great aswell..no problems at all. Since you know the history of the car I can't see why you wouldn't take it. The only thing that may not be up to scratch is the saftey side of things. i.e air bags etc. But that depends if it is a concern to you.

26. BabyGurly1745 (268) | 1 year ago | I would be to scared something would go wrong with it. Also newer cars are suppose to be better on gas millage. It is true that stuff can go wrong with a new car but more of a chance in a old car. Also there is usually warranty's on new cars. They also say you should not do business with friends and i would stick with that. I would just go for a newer car or if you are looking for a cheaper older car i wouldn't get it from a friend. The choice is always up to you though in the end. I hope what ever you choose will work out for you.

28. chiaeugene (1495) | 1 year ago | i do not mind but if i would to drive in a car that is more than 10 yrs old, i would go for japanese car which is more reliable and chances of engine giving problem and needing major repairs are lower. i used to own a 11 yrs old daihatsu charade and it gave me a lots of problem. i would recommend you to get honda or toyota for reliability.

29. violetdreams (348) | 1 year ago | Hi Loud
In an ideal world of course we would all like brand new cars - they go better, are better on fuel economy and many many more issues.
However, this is sadly not an ideal world and many of us have to just take what we can get. Personally, I don't think I will ever drive a brand new car again, at least not one that belongs to me!
We currently own a 2000 Landrover Freelander (bought second hand a few years back) and hubby rides a motor scooter to work. He is hoping to get a small car to use through the winter though! lol Poor man, he freezes his butt every day at the mo.
Until recently hubby drove the landrover and I had a 8 seater Toyota Previa which was an L Reg, which I guess makes it older than the 12 years you spoke about. Have to say it was a great car and gave us no trouble. In fact it was very comfy and I miss it!
Yes I would drive a 12 year old car, specially if it was in good condition with low mileage and never been in an accident.

30. Citizen_Stuart (799) | 1 year ago | £250? Take it! I just paid £850 for a good condition N reg Suzuki, so - assuming it's in good condition - you're getting a real bargain. I'd check round it for rust, and make sure there's nothing rattling excessively when you drive (especially the exhaust) but if it looks like it's been properly looked after, go for it! Worst case scenario, if it fails its MOT next year and it looks like costing too much to repair, you've saved enough money to think about buying another car.
