The Godfather Trilogy...A History of early gang violence  | |  AMC movies was showing a Godfather tribute yesterday. I freed some time in my day to sit down and watch The Godfather Part 1. I had seen this film when it originally entered the scene 40 years ago; and I still think it is one of the best movies of it's genre ever made. Many of Hollywood's new faces back then are old and famous today because of the roles they played in this blockbuster.
Can anyone think of a mob movie, and there are tons of them out, that has made a greater impact, both visually and emotionally, than The Godfather I? There are so many instances of raw violence in that film that I couldn't count them as I watched yesterday. Can anyone think of a gangster film, new or old, that showed more violence?

I liked the godfather II as well but thought number 3 was a bit too fake. It seemed like they tried too hard and it was a whole different time. But scarface was a pretty violent gangster movie. With that memorable end scene where Tony montana was shooting up the place as he got drilled by probably thousands of bullets. That and the chainsaw scene. There was just a lot of blood in that movie.

Scarface was very violent, and I remember that shoot up scene very well..lots of blood and guts. I still don't think you can beat the horse head in the bed scene in Godfather I, though. | |

| | 3.  wayz12 (1066) | 1 year ago |  I love the Godfather films. I also enjoy Mario Puzo's books. I agree the movie was violent in some ways, but that is part and parcel of a mob movie I guess.
Other good mob movies that I like, in no particular order, would be Good Fellas, LA Confidential, The Departed, The Untouchables, Road to Perdition and Reservoir Dogs. Some are more violent than others, I'm sure, but I think each of these movies have excellent stories, great acting, and wonderful direction.
