Actually my child is in the age of kindergarten only. I have heard that some parents complained about the teacher as she didn't give "a lot" of homework to the children.
I think the teacher is good. I don't agree to give many homework to the children, especially they are so little now. The teacher let them write some numbers everyday and I think it's good enough.

I think while children are little they should have less homework and more playtime. They are only little once. Now if you want to refer to preteens and teenagers then yes. Homework can keep a teen busy and out of trouble. So by them staying busy with homework, then some chores, and maybe offering some activities. The busier a teen is the less likely they are to get into trouble. My child hasn't started school yet, but I have all intentions of keeping him busy in his teen years.

I think it depends on. I had a high study pressure when I was in high school. There were many homework everyday and I wasn't able to finish them. I found that study was quite a tired task and I didn't like it.

I think children need homework even at an early age, it teaches responsibility. I also think parents should sit down with there children and help with the learning and teaching of subjects in school. I dont have small children they are teens and they have homework about once a week I feel that there education is not the way it should be, at this point I have taught them at home more than the teachers have taught them in school and yet we are told that are teachers are not getting paid enough.

myLot reputation of 96/100. youless (15126)   ranked 6 out of 2,701 in children  1 year ago

Perhaps we have different opinions. I think the children should finish the homework by themselves willingly. If parents sit down with them and the children will depend on them. I don't think it's a good idea.

youless, i agree with you. children should not get homework from the very early age. if they are given at a later stage it must not be heavy for the children. if the volume of homesork is such that the child cannot complete it within the time or she remains busy whole day doing homework and finds no time to play or relax, the child will lose interest in study and will harm the child in the long run.

my eldest daughter is 11 and in year 7 in the uk.she comes home neaerly every night with at least 2 pieces of homework to do.sometimes she has trouble getting it all done especialy if it a hard piece she has to do.so i think as they get older they are going to have enough to do just let them enjoy being young and haveing fun at school because too much will put them off.i will say my youngest doesnt get any homework at the age of 6 year 1 uk but then she is in a special needs school

Perhaps some people won't believe it, but actually today the children's homework is difficult.

It is impossible to please the parents of all the kids! That's why I feel so sorry for teachers.:) I too feel little children shouldn't be overburdened with too much of homework. If they spend all their time doing homework, when will they play? Children must play as it is good for their health. Moreover, they can't play when they are grown up; so it is better to allow them to play now that they are young and interested in play.

Cheers and happy mylotting

You are right. Children shall need more time to play and create their interests. I am afraid giving them more homework will let them lose the interest of study.

Well, if the child is only in kindergarten... i think they should only be given one homework... and the number should increase as they advance in their education... i think these parents who are complaining are the ones putting a stress on their young kids...

If i have a kindergarten who is given like 3 to 5 homeworks a day... i would surely complain... kids these age should play more...

I think my son gets plenty of homework. He does not have it every night, but he gets 2-4 papers on the nights that he does. As long as the kids are learning what they need in school, excessive homework should not be necessary.

Homework in Kindergarten?
I don't remember I have a lot of homework when I was in kindergarten.
The only reason why the teacher gave homework is to ensure my mum go thru it with me and be involved in my learning process.

They are kids. And they are only young once. Why load them now? There will be plenty of homework once they start primary school.

Sigh... parents now a days are so kiasu (scared to lose).

myLot reputation of 96/100. youless (15126)   ranked 6 out of 2,701 in children  1 year ago

This is true. Parents don't want their children to lose at the beginning. Then perhaps they think doing more homework is helpful. I think few people can be successful at last. Most people are normal. So it's not bad that to be normal but have a happy life.

I guess it all depends I have three in school full time one in kindergarten and the other two in second grade. Now my daughter I think has a fair amount of homework but for some reason my son never seems to have any he gets extra help and tutors at school for his learning disability so Im not sure if that's why or what but never the less I ask for extra practice papers and I print out kindergarten papers from my computer so they can all sit down at the same time to do homework because my kidnergartener is already starting to read

You are so right! Little children deserve
to have their free time, play time, too.
Mostly kindergarten is just about learning
the basics and socialization, not homework.

I feel sorry for the little children who are
overly burdened with too much homework.

Right now, my daughter is around the same age
and easily tired out with just an hour or two
or school work.

All things take time and kids learn to adjust
to school work load.

Plenty of time, when they are in higher grades
to burden them down with extra school work to
keep them busy.

Thanks for your insightful discussion.

I remember your daughter has the similar age like my son. I think an hour or two hours homework is too much for her.

My kindergartner has more than enough in my opinion. She gets a 5-6 page paket of worksheets every Monday. It has to be turned in the following Monday. This is in addition to alphabet projects given out on Mondays. As well as a nightly read at home assignment. I think sometimes, its a bit too much.

I think I didn't have much homework when I was in the kindergarten. Now everything changed.
