It weould only affect the child as far as the child or parent allows actually.
I have known many children from single parents home and theres no problems with them. Granted it is rougher for the child as well as the parent but it can be done with no ill effects to a point. I think the only time it hurts the child really is on things where parents are encouraged to attend with the child in activities for school outings or church etc.

I know that it is possible because I have seen it happen before. Single parenting has to be very tough that is for sure. I wouldn't want to do it though.
I have a five year old son and I am married so I am not alone. If I had to do it by myself it would be hard but I know that I could somehow manage.
Women that raise children alone are very brave and strong people. Without a partner to help it has to be very demanding.
I believe that a child can be fine being raised by a single parent as long as the parent raises them the right way and shows them the values and guidance that the child needs in life.
The most important thing for a child is to be loved. wink

It is very difficult to be a single parent and it's full of heartaches, pain, and sorrow in the heart. I know because I've been there - a single parent daddy! I believe that it will really affect the children in the future. We cannot raise the kids all by ourselves, we need the help of others. It is very important to raise kids as a single parent by bringing them to the knowledge of God and setting a good example. I had no problems with my kids because we are all serving God. Bring your kids to a loving church where the truth is preached about sin, pure life, and morals. This will help the kids learn to respect you as a parent as they love and respect God.thumbup

Some teenage girls get pregnant and their boyfriend doesn't support them. They become a single parent and most of them do a good job of being a mother. They might have limited finances but they give their child lots of love. Some ladies in their twenties and thirties get married, have children and then a few years later get divorced. The children suffer emotionally when their parents divorce especially in the first two years. I taught one child that had a scared mother and a violent father. She got the necessary courage to escape that nasty man and give her child a safe life. A child is better with one parent than living with two that fight and argue all the time. Couples are not always compatible in life. A single parent does their best to bring their children up. I would be able to raise a child and make happy on my own as a single parent.

I too agree that is better for yourself and kids if you divorce rather than subject yourself and kids to a violent and abusive mother or father. My husband was a single dad for awhile, and if I were to ever be in a situation where there was physical or emotional harm going on, I would rather be a single parent too.

I beg friends not to stay in relationships where they get belittled and put down and beaten because I tell them the longer they stay, the greater the chance the kids will be next. They always tell me that their spouse doesn't hurt the kids - but the kids see and hear how their mom is being treated!

Having been a single mother for several years before i met my husband I would have to say its very hard. You have to make a living and raise a child. As i always tell anyone who'll listen to me "Having a child is the last truly selfish decision your allowed" Your life becomes that childs. I'm not saying having a little person around doesn't have its upside I'm just saying Your child needs to become your first priority. The responsbility can be overwhelming at times. But it can be done. It's just very hard.

i was a single parent for the first 8 years of my sons life, and we have both been fine about it.

my sons' father told me he no longer loved me while i was pregnant, so i left him (not much else i could have done really).

i had fantastic support from my parents, extended family and friends, so i don't feel as though i was all alone in my life.

i now have a partner and my son is now 10, though my partner is a male figure in my sons' life, he is in no way trying to "play daddy" and that is fine by all of us.

even though being a single parent is in no way a desrable thing, it is viable and not as hard as some people make out.

I think that it`s a little difficult for the child and for the single parent too, but a single mom will always do the best she can to be mother and father for her baby so, i think is much better to only have a great mother than having a family where conflicts are something normal. Step fathers are also a method to stress a child, unless he is the perfect father, but how often do u see that?

I think raising a child on your on is very challenging. It entails alot of patience and perseverance in order to do the job well. I think being a single parent have a subjective effect on the child. If a child was raised in a proper manner and the situation was explained to the child thoroughly, the child would not have any problem with his/her parent raising him/her alone. But ofcourse, the child would still have questions about his/her missing parent. And that is another challenge a single parent will face.
