I have worked for Home Instead Senior care for 8 months and I absolutely love it! It's the best job I've ever had. Each office is individually owned, and I think my office is the best one out there. I recently called a Home Instead in another state because I was thinking of moving there, and I was appalled at the way they do things there. For one, they do NOT show caregivers they are appreciated. The man I spoke with told me that the caregivers already know they are appreciated, so there's no point in him showing them. How can they know if they are not shown?!?!? That location does not offer bonuses after working there for a year. They also do not hold recognition banquets. They don't offer extra pay for working on weekends, and they don't give out certificates of achievement after working so many hours. My location does all these things. We get awards after working 1,000 hours, 2,000, etc. We also get raises after so many hours worked, which the other location does not do. The pay rate you start at, is the rate you make forever, even if you work there for 30 or 40 years. Can you believe how different 2 locations can be, even though they are the same company?

Oh yes I can believe it alright. My husband worked his tail off as a maintanence man at the hospital and didn't get enough money to pay the bills on just his chegue then when Christmas time rolled around we were invited to their Christmas party which we were told was just a drucken bash. You had to pay for what you drank which I agree with but they took 25.00 off your cheque for the meal and we were told it was always pathetic. Hubby told them right off the start. When I want to take my wife out for supper I'll pay the bill regardless the cost but we'll order what we want and not just crap thrown together and we'll have it without the company of drunks, and therefore there's no need to debit my pay. So they didn't deduct his pay and we never went. Of course the drunks always went that's not a surprize.

Wow. Thankfully, I've never been to one of those kind of dinners. Good for your husband for sticking up for you both.

Yes I agree and now I can't wait to tell you this. The job hubby has now, he's been only approximately six months and this last pay cheque envelope seemed a bit thick and when hubby opened it there were two grocery gift cards for one hundred dollars each. WOW what a bonus (200.00) that was. I fixed up a Thank You card saying how the grocery money was well spent and appreciated at this time of year. The boss thanked hubby for the card and hubby said how he really didn't expect anything this year and the boss flat out said not to worry about that he earned it. So see the difference between the two places.
