Do your children believe in Santa Clause? |
|
My fiance and I have decided to raise our daughter with the concept of santa clause. After talking to a lot of our friends it was the best descion for our family. Some people feel that telling your children that there is a santa clause is lying to your children and that it is wrong. I don't see anything wrong with a little imagination, and fairy tale. I think that it is something that children look forward too. I loved the holidays when I was younger and was raised believing in santa clause. I think it adds a little extra magic, and spark to the holidays.
Have you raised your children to believe in santa clause? What is your reason for your descion? Did you believe in santa clause when you were younger? At what age do you think a child stops believing? Please share your thoughts, and thanks for your responses! Happy holidays.

For if you don't believe, he want come on Christmas. And you must be very, very good. It is only a game or a joke of coarse now. But they want say there's not a Santa.

2. marcialoyd (1072) | 1 year ago | My parents raised me believing in Santa Clause but when I have children I don't believe I will do the same. I believe I will tell them the story of the TRUE Saint Nicholas to teach them the importance of giving to people less fortunate at Christmas time.

3. bobbyjoe143 (869) | 1 year ago | My son does not now believe in santa clause (he is now 10), however, when he was younger, I let him believe that santa was a man who found out if you had been naughty or nice that year and would allow for you to get your presents accordingly.
However, I never wanted my son to think that his presents popped out of thin air, so he has always known that it is me that buys his presents, I always told him that I sent the presents to santa, then he would check his naughty/nice list and if my son had been good he would get all his gift, if he had been bad, some of his gifts would go to less fortunate children in the world who had been good, but their parents couldn’t afford much.

sunshine4 (6288) | 1 year ago | bobbyjoe~ what a nice way to explain the gifts that santa brought. I wish I had started that with my kids, but now they are all grown. I am going to remember that for when I have grandchildren and maybe my kids will use that explaination.

4. MysticTomatoes (795) | 1 year ago | My DD is only 6 months old, so she doesn't understand what the Christmas tree is really used for. She thinks it's a big toy to eat. In any event, when she gets old enough, she'll be raised to believe in Santa as will any of her siblings that are yet to be born. Believing in Santa does not damage a child's psyche or hurt or scar them for life. It's a childhood ritual and a right that every child should have: The ability to believe in things like Santa and the Easter Bunny and for parents to keep that dream alive for as long as possible.

5. sunshine4 (6288) | 1 year ago | I raised all of my children believing in Santa Clause as I was raised believing. I still do believe!
My boys are 20, 17 and 14 and my daughter is 8. My daughter is now at the age of questioning about it. She has friends in school who don't believe and I tell her that if you don't believe, he won't come, so it will be sad for them this Christmas. My boys help in keeping Santa alive with my daughter. My oldest moved this past year and my daughter asked how Santa would find him. He said that he is going to leave a note telling Santa that he wants to spend Christmas with his family so please drop his gifts off here (smart boy I raised there). My other boys always talk to Santa at the mall when their sister is there. They want to keep santa alive in our home forever.

6. Sillychick (2133) | 1 year ago | I agree that there is nothing wrong with imagination and fantasy. Telling your children about Santa is not lying to them, it is letting them experience the joy of childhood. Not allowing them to believe and have that fantasy robs them of the essence of what it means to be a child- to be willing and able to believe in magic, in the unbelievable, and to let them have fun.
I do talk to my son about Santa, and I tell him the stories. I don't put too much emphasis on it, though, because I don't want Christmas to be all about receiving gifts. I want it to also be about giving, and about appreciating what we have, and all that good stuff.
