I am discouraged & desperate, needing computer help!!

Hi fjaril. You should be able to go into the Control Panel from the Start menu button then settings; and then select the - "Regional and Language Options" icon. From here you should be able to select English as the operating system language which in turn should adjust all your other related functions like spell check etc accordingly. If you haven't tried this already then this is what I suggest. I have had to do exactly the same thing when I bough my laptop as the whole thing was set up for Arabic!

To be honest, I'm not sure I fully understand the problem.

Is it the problem that your Microsoft Word is only in Swedish and you need it English also? Or is the problem that your computer in general does spell checks only in Swedish when you type in forums on the internet? Or is your problem both? lol...

Anyway, if your problem or main problem is that your computer, in general, only spell checks in Swedish when you are typing on the internet in forums, I'd have to say that I'm sorry but I can not help you there since I do not know how to change the settings of the computer in general for that.

However, if you want your word processor to have English included, I could offer a simple solution to that. I don't know how to adjust things in the processor either since, but, just stop using the Microsoft Word that came on your computer when typing in English. Instead, go to a website called openoffic .org and download something called openoffice. Openoffice is a complete office suite software with a number of features including a word processor. The Openoffice word processor works the same as Microsoft word and works just as good. It is free and it does NOT have any spyware or viruses in it so it is safe to download.

When/if you download that, at some point during the process there will be an option for you to select the language you'd like it in. At that point, just select English. Then you can use that processor for when you want to type in English. Also this free office suite software comes with other programs, aside from the word processor, which you might find helpful or fun for something in the future. However, if you never want to use the other programs on it, that is ok also, the word processor will still work great.

I don't know how to get you a Swede to English translation and spelling. But Cannonball uses a translator and may know something that could help you. Plus, you are no way the worst! You covered your butt well, but now I wonder what it looks like?!

Hi fjaril. We all make spelling mistakes and mostly its a typo error. So please don't worry about spelling mistakes. You successfully convey what you want to.even more.

But if you must then best thing - you ask the people from where you bought it to set it right,the way you want. Nope!! you would rather fix it yourself!

I have never used MS word in Swedish. Infact in no other language than English. So don't know the pleasure and ofcourse pain too.lol.

well! why don't you try clicking on control panel and then selecting keyboards and languages option and see for yourself if it can help you.

Ok, apparently you are a Swede. Which is why your computer defaults to Swedish.

In Microsoft Word however, Swedish would be one of the EXTRA languages provided IF you have those languages installed and often it's installed in the manner that requires the disk at time of use. This sounds like your situation.

To fix:

Open a document in Word. Go to the Tools Menu. You should see a "Language" option. Click on that. Then click "Set Language". You can now specify ENGLISH as your preferred language. This then should set the dictionary for spell check as well.

FYI these instructions are for Word 2003. They should be very similar for other versions, but if you are having trouble finding it, let me know what version you have and I'll get specifics.

I can help with changing your language options if you are using MS Office 2007. Go to the little coloured menu in the top left corner of a Word document. Down the bottom of that box is "word options". Click on that and you can select your language.

Yes friend, I know how it is. If you cannot really afford to get an installation disk of Microsoft word, I'd recommend Openoffice.org. They have a word processor with similar functions as microsoft word. And its totally free. But check first to see if Language settings are correct. That could be causing the problem. Its right under the control panel.
