First, how did you get the money that you lost, if it wasn't yours in the first place?

In the end, you have to live with yourself. $30 might not sound like a lot, and you might think you need that money, but did the other person work for it? Wasn't it theirs?

What if they needed the money.... you never know what could happen...they might have loaned it if you needed it that bad...and how did you lose something if you need money so bad? You should know where it went...

Hi! Nothing beats telling the truth. It may not come out well, but then it will be worse if you evade the issue. Explain to the person who owns the money the circumstances in which you lost the amount. Then come to an agreement, perhaps write a promisory note that you will be able to pay the amount you lost at a particular date. Sometimes it just takes sitting down and discussing issues until an agreement is reached, than having to worry about it and losing sleep about it. Besides, if you're on the other end of the situation and somebody lost your money, what can you imagine you would be doing under the circumstances?

Even how badly you need the money and if it's not yours then you shouldn't be keeping it with you and should be returned to where it belongs. The truth will let you free and that is the only way around. Just remember, a good seed sown bears good fruit in the end. Those intentions will haunt you back a thousand folds. Doing what is right and appropriate won't hurt you in the long run but it will gain you something before you knew it.
