Remedy for hands |
| |
| My 6 y/o for a few weeks now, has had this chafing on the tops of his hands..When I first noticed it, I put some Vaseline on, but it burned. I don't know if this is from the cold, and he says it doesn't bother him, but it looks horrible, but I don't understand why Vaseline would burn, I thought it was mild. I also want something safe, since he does put his fingers in his mouth, but also something that is easy to find, but not expensive..Any ideas??? | | | | | |

| | hi Carmela here its not very expensive. It is good cause it will not leave a greasy feeling after applying and it will work on that chafed area like magical. As a diabetic I have some problems with chafed hands mainly in wintertime and use quite a bit of various hand creams. I have some oldies but goldies to use up but the Neutrogena which I got as a gift sits there for absolute emergencies., | | | |

| | I think vaseline is a pretroleum product. Gas on an open wound. Aloe vera would be my first choise. The chafing might be line a scrape, think- rug burn, scraped skin can react like burns to things (like raw). After it has healed for a while, maybe olive oil and bees wax. There are savez, sauvez (spelling ?) made with that including lip balm for chapped lips. After it has healed over a little, then olive oil and bees wax. If it looks awful and doesn't bother him, it may not be chafing. It may be a skin problem that a dermatologist needs to look at. Want me to google pictures of skin problems for you so you can see if it looks like anything that a dermatologist needs to see? | | | | | | |

| | I don't know, maybe you're like my Mom. She was tough as nails. She didn't use novacaine at the Dentist's Office and couldn't understand why I needed it. | | | |

| | Yup, my Mother was tough as nails. Novacaine bothered her more than drilling her teeth, so she went without. Different things bother different people differently. Glad it isn't eczema. Hope it's not of the ones in the slides, just chapped skin like you said and agreed, if it isn't important, don't respond. Take care. | | | |

| | I would agree with Aloe, but another good alternataive is Vitamin E. Both of them promote healing, and are good for the skin. | | | | | | |

| | I think aloe vera sounds like a good choice too. You might look for some lotion with shea butter in it. The burning is probably just from the chafing, not so much the vaseline, just the fact of touching it probably burns it. Good Luck! | | | | | | |

| | Thanks Feona, but the first thing I am going to try is corn Huskers..I remember using this many times as a kid, I am sure it will work..Though I did look up eczema on this site, because a friend we visited, (she didn't even look close at his hand), automatically said he had this. I saw the symptoms, so I know that isn't it.. | | | |

| | You're welcome...I've never heard of corn huskers... The site did seem to have a lot of different reasons for dry skin... I would think anything you can use on an infant will work also....let me know how the corn huskers works cuz my hands are dry all the time...I am constantly washing my hands... thank you.. | | | |

| | My dad used his hands a lot, he was a tool maker and he had a workshop in the garage and used corn huskers lotion for his skin..when mine would get really bad, he would pull it out and have me use it, it healed it up real fast..Unfortunately, my husband took off and forgot to ask me if I needed anything, so I may have to wait until Wednesday when a mylotter said I may get this lotion called renew and see if that works.. | | | |

| | I have the same kind of stuff on my hands. It does not really hurt, but it is very annoying to me. I have been using just regular lotion and it burns. I think the aloe and the vitamin e suggestions you got are pretty good. You could also try some hydrocortizone cream. | | | | | | |

| | Have you changed hand soaps lately? Or is he eating something that he isn't in the habit of eating? It sounds like allergic dermatitis. I use Gold Bond Ultimate cream. It is a little expensive, but it just takes a tiny little bit for each application. Spreads on easily, doesn't leave a greasy film and provides a layer of protection from the elements. | | | | | | |

| | No, same soap and same eating habits. I hope I don't have to invest into something expensive, corn huskers which is what one of the posters mentioned, sounds like it will work and something we could all use.. | | | |

| | O yes this use to happen to me, it was really bad. It actually for the first time (as far as I remember), did not occur last winter. I was surprised, but relieved and happy. All I recall doing was either Vaseline or something that have to do with dry skin therapy/moisturizing cream. (looks through room) I found this stuff called Eucerin that I used to use. I remember that seemed to help. Good luck though, I remember having it and man was it a pain. Both trying to prevent/heal it and the actual pain itself. | | | | | | |

| | I know what Eucerin is, and can't afford that lotion, but corn huskers is something that is mild and I don't think is expensive.. And this doesn't really bother my son, it only bothered him when I put Vaseline on it, but it looks horrible..So I guess it is more because I think it looks bad, than it actually hurting him.. | | | |

| | Yes the Eucerin I did not actually buy myself. They were free samples at the dentist or something. I would always sneak a couple in my pocket. It did not really hurt my hands except for the Vaseline and things. It did get really bad at a few points that it did hurt to close and open my hands. It was all dry right on my knuckles so it was not fun at all and they bled. I wish you the best of luck. It is no fun. | | | |

| | Mine was a free sample too, through the nursery where I bought my hedges..I used it after I gardened and loved it, but when I went to the store to see how much, I couldn't afford to buy lotion at that price, even if it was good.. | | | |
