Might think about getting your kids vaccinated ASAP- or it's going to cost you!

Add this to your list of concerns... Doctors are seriously considering stopping giving vaccinations (measles, mumps etc) to INSURED kids - cause they don't make enough money off it. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081201/ap_on_bi_ge/med_vaccines_cost "But health officials are worried. Reimbursement concerns were behind an exodus of doctors from vaccine programs in the 1980s, which contributed to a terrible resurgence of measles in 1989-91 that caused 11,000 hospitalizations and 123 deaths." Oh, wait, yeah that'd make sense. If the kids are not vaccinated, they will get the diease so they will go back to the doctor for multiply treatments (do you hate going to the doctor? http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1811017.aspx ) which means the doctor will earn more money. Let's not keep the kids healthy and try to rid the country of a few diseases..There certainly aren't many illnesses these days that require a doctor!. These are only childhood diseases, stopping them isn't going to cause doctors to loose "patients"... the kids will be growing up to have health problems for the rest of their lives, thus giving doctors YEARS of patients and income, not to mention the children they will have that will have illnesses. Keeping them healthy when they are more susptible as a young age, only means they'll be around for a lot many more years to get alot many more illnesses... to go to the doctor alot many more times! Granted, some doctors may care a bit more, but then you wonder is it only so you'll survive to pay the bill! ( Is this a "more cynical with age" issue? http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1813300.aspx - I say no, it is reality!) Then we have to question - if this is going to be a problem - is the governement going to do anything about it? Instead of sending all the medical aid to other countrys to vaccinate children there for free, are they going to give Americans free vaccinations? No, probably the next step will be that they accept what the insurance pays and then bill us for the balance. Bottom line- better get your kids in for vaccinations ASAP - or add another expense to your already limited budget! I know doctors have to make a living too, but at the same time, I see so many wastes that they do that often is the reason people can't afford the doctor . . . so they loose patients....so they loose money - an allergy doctor I go to charges $190 for a literally 60 second "office visit" and I dont' even see him! I get 2 shots in my arms by a nurse and am literally in and out in less than 60 seconds. And the shots cost $80. And this is twice a week! If my insurance stops, so do my visits. I can't afford that - $500 a week! I'll just have to sneeze uncontrolably, get minor help from OTC medicines and buy stock in Kleenex. But if he'd lower the offcie visit price to something reasonable, I might be able to get at least one a week - thereby he'd be making that much money instead of nothing! LIfe is getting really expensive!

Ouch! That is terrible. And we can't not get vaccinations. That would be worse. I am sure there are some that may have to cut corners that way. I can't believe no one sees the possible dangers of this. I guess this puts another in the pro column for Universal Health care.

I don't know that I am for Universal health care, but since it is mandatory for children to have these innoculations to enter school, seems it should be mandatory the either insuracnces cover them or the state government or at least part of them or maybe whoever has the medication that is sent to the doctors - they can only charge a certain fair price to the doctor and all health insurances have to cover that 100% But in addition -why don't the doctors stop doing other things, like charging $10 for a Tylenol tablet! Why something this critical!?!

Just one more report to show that the only thing insurance companies care about is their bottom line. Having some kids miss out on these important vaccinations because they cannot pay is highly irresponsible. Don't they realize that the only way we eradicated some of these dreadful diseases was by widespread vaccinations. If some children are not protected these diseases will come back and they will be even stronger and resistant to the treatments we can use. When that happens even the kids who were vaccinated will be at risk. It's time to take health care decisions out of the hands of businessmen and governments and put it back in the hands of doctors where it belongs. In other words, health care should not be decided on the merits of money.

Not only that, but there is some question about the safety of vaccines in the first place. These are troubling times.

Yes, it is quite costly. But I never allowed this cost factor coming in the way of vaccination of my children. I reduced or avoided other expenditures but never avoided vaccination. After all my children are my real wealth, they are my future.
