Do you tell your children that their Christmas gift came from Santa Claus?

When I was a kid, we were told that Santa Clause was actually Saint Nicholas that brought the presents for children. Being a saint, it had religious connotations.

My children are grown but yes, they were told about Santa and they did believe that they did get some gifts from him. They also knew about the real meaning of Christmas.

This is something that many Christians disagree on..I for one never told my children about Santa and if they hear it from someone else, I tell them that their Mom and Dad would be the Santa, no guy in a red suit gives them gifts..Besides, I wonder how parents then deal with a neighbor kid who got everything they wanted and then some while another child is fortunate to have food, let alone toys..

I always told mine that Santa brought them and that his kindness and love for children was how we should all be toward others. But we also had a stocking on the tree for Jesus and everyone would leave a gift of a prayer or thought in it for Him. Birthday celebrations are for giving gifts not receiving them. Jesus was always the center and reason for Christmas and Santa was for the fun part of gifts, rewarding good behavior on a more mortal level.

When the children were small we did the Santa Claus thing, at about 5 we told them about St Nicolas, by then they just couldn't buy someone coming down the chimney.
At 6 they knew all and just knew Santa Clause was a good icon for a gift giving
time, when all people could give even if it was just an IOU for chores or good wishes.

I grew up with Santa presents and even my kids did too. It is funny how we make so much of Santa and very little about the birth of Jesus. I guess it is part of the overly politically correctness we have lately.

haha.. I believe alot of kids make that mistakes too, as well as adults.. After all, it's always Santa claus who's giving away the presents, and thus naturally, children will believe the gifts comes from them.. hehe=D

But if someone were to dress up like jesus and give away presents, only then they will believe the gifts comes from jesus.. lol=D ON top of that, only christians will really know the real reason behind christmas, but for others like me, i will only take it as a public holiday for celebration.. haha

Santa brought me gifts when I was little and brings my son gifts too. Santa even shows up at church. There is nothing wrong with Santa bringing gifts to kids.

Well I tell my child that Santa Claus will bring her presents, she is only 3 years so she takes me really seriously. However I think it is good for children to leave them in fantasy, so they will enjoy their childhood. Children are growing to fast so why not treat them like kids.

They can have both as they are distinct in their own rights. Oh course I tell them their Christmas is from Santa and they thank God for what they have recieved. Of course some of the older ones know that mom and dad are Santa. But the younger ones stil believe. There is so little for children to believe in these days, why not let them believe in Santa, fairies, toothfairy, the Easter Bunny, etc. Let them have dreams as long as they can they have enough reality to deal with daily.
